'11 FL LB Gionni Paul

Well if he is only 5'10 he is not going to be able to get to 220lbs and stay at that speed....

I dont know. Al Wilson was up to 235 and never lost a step. I mean he was literally 5'10 / 5'11.

If they are staying with a 4-3 they better have fast / athletic outside linebackers, no matter what their height is, or defenses will light them up like UAB did. Plus, more often than not the OLB's have to cover slot guys anyways, and there aren't a lot of them that are much taller.

Gionni Paul has the look of Sean Spence.

and there arent more than 5 4-3 OLBs in College that I'd take over Spence.

where did this come from that Vols all of a sudden dont like Paul? I missed it

I agree completely. He's easily one of the best and most instinctive OLB's in the entire '11 class. If they are backing off him I just think it is odd, considering the need, and considering all the other southern powers are now after him.

Nothing against Harris because I think he has the potential to be a great LB for us, but if the staff is willing to take him then why wouldn't they take Paul?

Plus I dont see MLB as near the need that OLB is. To me, AJ also looks more like an inside guy than an outside guy.

VolQuest. Yesterday, Hubbs said something along the lines of "Paul really likes UT but I'm not sure how much they like him back".

Today a poster said he's heard that UT backed off of him because he was a lot smaller than advertised once he got on campus.

I read elsewhere that Paul measured 5-11, 210 at an ESPN combine earlier this year. That's about the same size Al Wilson was coming out of Jackson Central-Merry. Paul may be shorter than your prototype SEC LB, but "small" he ain't:

In spite of his height, Paul has offers from the likes of Auburn, FSU, and LSU for good reason. He's very strong, exceptionally fast, and has a tremendous vertical. He's been ridiculously productive in Class 4A in Central Florida, an area loaded with top-notch talent. IMO, Paul will have a big impact on the field by his sophomore year wherever he ends up...and I hope that's in Knoxville.

True....but AL Wilson was a freak

Maybe this guy is too though

Agreed! Paul is a must have for us considering how much attrition we're facing at the OLB position. These rumors just aren't adding up, and I cant see the staff passing on this guy.

If the quotes from the Scout article are legit, then this is probably a BS rumor. Dooley isn't going to tell a kid that he wants him to come and be a leader from day 1 & then turn down his commitment....just doesn't make sense.

Kevin Simon got up to 230ish and he could still move despite his injuries. When healthy, Simon was a beast.

I have to agree with this. Dooley has cut a couple of people loose but he seems like he has been very honest with the kids. I don't see him lying to the kid's face.

Church.

I think King is really our most athletic LB and has the potential to be a very good OLB for UT. Other than him we are average at best. Definitely not SEC caliber speed.

King and Lathers both have good speed. But we definitely need another outside LB, and that would be Paul.

Funny how rumors make the board go crazy. If the coaches have been recruiting him for the entire year, then I guarantee one of the them have seen him play in PERSON before this weekend.

Everyone knows he is on the smaller side, but kid can flat out play. Calm down everyone, things will be ok....
