'11 FL LB Gionni Paul

Initially, it looks awful strange, but it's hard to judge without full information. And regardless, if we get Dawson, all will be forgiven.

Cant believe we passed on this guy. Our LB's suck and are slow. yes Paul is undersized but he is fast. I'm sorry Dooley but big slow linebackers don't fare well in the SEC, maybe in the WAC it does.

Just checked. Dooley coached at LSU and in the NFL before taking a job at LT. I'm pretty sure he's aware of what it takes to play LB in the SEC.

come on guys! the staff apparently knows something that we don't! trust them. they aren't just going to pass on a stud player unless they have a very good reason to...

No. No. You just don't understand. The coaches don't have a good reason and everyone who is anyone here on the board knows it... so they BETTER get someone else as good! What are they trying to do? Get themselves fired on purpose by passing on great players?

Trust the staff. If it's a character issue that turned the staff off, then I'm more than glad they have departed ways with him. We don't know the facts. Let's just just the staff on this one. They know better than we do.

YEAH... They BETTER get somebody better or we'll get very, very, very, very angry....... and mad to and we'll say bad things about them... and say they don't know anything about recruiting.... and... uhhhh... well you know... just be VolNation... :)

1. Trip Thurman
2. Eric Maclean
3. Gionni Paul

Three players with offers by other big time schools we could've had. Very disappointing if we finish this yrs class with players of the caliber of Crump, Propst, and Martaze. I dont want to take sloppy 2nds on NSD. Although I do like Crump despite his dumb penalties.

Propst was Frosh All-SEC...

Caliber of Crump and Propst? You mean the guys ahead of Askew, NMT, and Robert Nelson. Guys most on this board were in love with. I remember one flag on Crump.

Also, I'll take our three current OL commits plus our likely final two pickups over Thurman.

Propst was Frosh All-SEC...

Haha I saw that to. Don't act like you think he is going to be 1st team all SEC. He could be a good player down the road, but that freshman list had like 20 players on it, he was on it because unlike the better schools in the conference they dont have to play freshman at important spots.

But he was still impressive when he got playing time.

I trust this staff, but I have to question this move to pass on Paul.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a lesson in star gazing...

Common Sense 101

If he's that good... why'd they pass?

Answer...

1. Because they didn't like him because of something he did.
2. Because they hope they find another LB
3. Because they don't need another LB or
4. Because they already have all but locked up another LB so they told Paul to keep in touch but didn't offer him leaving him confused and so not so high on us for being slow played.

you choose... or pick OTHER.

I'm taking 4.

Wanna know why his family didnt know, because it happend after th recruits were turned loose.

Remembering my visits, it was facilities, dinner with coaches and family, and eventually it was bye bye family, hello party.

Players do talk with coaches about what goes on and their impressions of recruits.

What likely happend is while Paul was eating breakfast and talking to his family saying he was going to commit, the coaches were checking in with the player hosts to see how the kids were.

A true leader would have hopefully told the coaches if something was up and thus is lead to a situation where Paul was wanting to commit and the coaches had to meet and discuss with the player hosts exactly what happend.

Again, pure speculation, but I know when I was hosting kids we did feedback the coaches.

And its not about drinking or getting drunk that would get anyone in trouble.

All the recruits got ****faced, but its about the way they handle themselves sometimes, and again, while I was playing I think we had 1 or 2 that basically were done after their actions during a trip cause you realized more problems were likely to come and when you have limited spots to sign, why take the risk on a potential problem when there are plenty of other guys that can fill that recruiting slot.

Oh yes, when I was playing a recruit asked how often the coach does drug testing so he can blow. Its safe to say he was stopped being recruited by us.

So I am just going through his profile on Rivals and it is saying solid verbal to Arizona State as of today. Anybody tracking this?
