'11 FL LB Gionni Paul

Listen, there must have been a valid reason for the staff to make this decision. If Dooley didn't want him, then I am on board. I trust that our LB corp. will be solid. Lets not pretend that Paul was the answer to all of our questions at LB.

He had previously visited there. I think this is a good sign for UT's recruiting. We must be in REALLY good shape with some LBs.

Yes committed to ASU today, that should show you the staff def backed off of him.

I find it odd how quickly he went half way across the country to a school with a questionable long term coaching situation so quickly after the Vols passed.

I have a gut feeling we did the right thing and I hope this causes Paul to have something to prove and does nothing but great things for ASU.

It is odd. Completely out of the blue...almost like he is trying to latch on to whatever semi high profile school he could. Really makes you wonder WTF happened on the visit.

Today he says Louisville, Texas Tech, Aubie and Lsu are his four then he pledges to ASU? Sounds like whatever happened has made the rounds and he didn't have much of a choice.

"ASU, that's just where I want to go. Coach Erickson is a legend down here. I just watched 'The U' on ESPN (30 for 30). He's won national championships, he coached Ray Lewis, now he's coaching Vontaze Burfict. What more can you ask for?"

"Once you make a commitment, to me, that's it. I'm a man of my word, a commitment is a commitment so recruiting is done, I'm going to ASU, no more trips, nothing," Paul said. "I'm just going to focus on playing basketball and school and that's it."

"Arizona, it's nothing like it is out here and I loved it," Paul said. "My family, they all support me. It's far away but I think that's good for me. They have everything I need to be successful there and I just can't wait to get out there and play."

"Sitting down with coach Erickson and my family - I just felt it," said the 6-0 223 Gionni Paul about his verbal commitment to Arizona State. "It just came to me and I felt it like a sugar rush. That is the place I wanted to be.

"I thought hard and long after my visit there (on 10/30) about where I wanted to go. I had offers from Michigan, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, Florida and Florida State...but I felt that Arizona State was the best place for me.

“They didn't have their best year but I'm going to help put them back on the map."

I really wish I knew what he did that turned the coaches off.

I know what you mean, but I'm glad that it is kept private. Either side could end up looking like a whiny little ...... and at that point, who needs the headache. Split ways and end it.

ASU? You got to be kidding.... I think the coaches just showed us that we don't know jack.

Sounds like a lot fo schools backed off of Paul, if he had offers from those schools and ended up at ASU. He talks so much about Erickerson but is he not on the hot seat? I know some people around here are disappointed we did not take him but thats why we are here and coaches are coaches.

I wish the kid the best. His film is great. But it is obvious that all of the schools he listed that offered him have indeed passed on him.
