I'd def. support bringing in this guy.

QB competition in the offseason is good. Worley will need a RS year anyway IMO.

I'd rather take a shot on him than an umpteenth DB.

If Mettenberger comes in and is our #1 QB (better than Bray and Simms), you wouldn't want him? Why?

It's on the Rocky Top News forum at InsideTennessee.com

Under the heading "Could be Tennessee recruiting"

I might have jumped the gun on it, all it says is that Mettenberger declined an interview due to team policy but that he has spoken to the staff on multiple occasions and Bryant believes there is interest on both sides

TIFWIW

Edit: LV, I know you are working with Bryant now and if you get a chance I would love to hear any thoughts he shares with you about Mettenberger that y'all feel comfortable letting out.

I'd have to say; this is something worth looking into if it's a possiblity. We all know Simms is a stop-gap at best and frankly a young QB would have his confidence Cromptoned if not careful. Now, what this means is that we would have to drop another 'want' in our recruiting; maybe a Gionni Paul or another RB (whoever that may be/I prefer Bigelow) and go harder on those next year. As we've seen in Auburn this year, and impact QB does go a long way. Mettenberger may not be impact but if it's an upgrade....

I wasn't talking about Mettenberger. I was referring to Bray.

Of all the QB's in being recruited in this class (juco and high school), Mettenberger is by far the most game ready. He's an NFL QB if he gets it together off the field. He has 3 to play 3 and is tearing up juco as a passing QB, which is difficult to do considering there is little to no offseason practice time to develop chemistry with WRs. Fwiw, I also read where LeMay and his dad were more concerned about him competing with Mettenberger than Murray and Mettenberger getting booted pushed uga over the top.

If it were me, I'd make a run at it, but I could undertand why CDD wouldn't at this point.

I feel better about taking a chance on a kid with a checkered past with Dooley in charge, rather than Kiffin. I think Dooley will keep him in line.

Does anyone know what exactly Mettenberger did in the past that makes him a risky take?

Basically fondled some chick without her consent. I'd take him because of his talent but first he'd have to take a tazer to the face to prove he wants it.

Was that at Georgia? (Did he ever make it there?) Or did all this happen before

He was going to be UGA's starter if not for the off-field screw up.

Anyone who says they don't want him based on character has no right to attack Kiffin for not offering Newton.

They are all a means to an end for me. I don't care what they've done in the past as long as they can keep their noses clean while at UT.

Character had nothing to do with Newton not getting an offer from what I heard. They (Kiffin's staff) thought he couldn't learn the offense.

Being suspended for the first half of the game the coaches went to to evaluate him probably didn't help his cause.

The Newton comparison is undeniable here... he would be perfect for our offense just like Newton is for Auburn's.

Zach was not going to be the starter at Georgia. Murray was listed as the #1 QB in spring and Mett was #3 behind Logan Gray. He did have a great G-day game that would have vaulted him to the #2 spot but CMR said after G-day that Murray was the starter. As far as what Mett did he went down to Valdosta during spring break got drunk went to a bar and was harrassing a girl ...grabbing her and what not and she ask him to stop and then he became a beligerant idiot and continued to harrass the girl until he was kicked out of the bar and the police were called. He was arressted on 5 charges. I wish Zach the best and hope he has learned his lesson from all of this. He is an exceptional QB and could be a star for someone one day. He has 3 years left as he is a RS Freshman.
