'11 MI RB Justice Hayes

then you never played football.

I get what he's saying LV...if Hayes were a RB in the same mold as Tom Smith then his speed is more than adequate...but Hayes is a speed back and when compared to other speed backs (both Buie's, Bigelow, Hart, etc.) on film he appears a step slower than them...

Watching his film and comparing it to Smith's the only major difference I see is that Smith appears thicker

I'm not saying we shouldn't take him or he's not good...I just don't see the speed or homerun threat everybody's takling about when I watch his film

Hayes can change direction and accelerate faster than Smith, IMO.

I am no recruiting expert but I do watch a lot of high school and college football. First of all I don't think you have to have elite speed to be a top notch back (See Lattimore, Ingram, and Trent Richardson). If you have good vision, good quickness, and can break tackles you can make a living running the ball. Only problem I see is that he is a lot like Tom Smith. Not sure why we take to backs that are so similar, but that is also why I am not getting paid millions to coach and Tennessee. Oh and for those that do not want him or DY, I am glad you are not our recruiting coordinator.

Those backs are also 215,220. I think much of the confusion was because of ALL the Bigello, Bellemy talk along with Hayes.

Is there a potential "Oku-esque" problem here? They have similar clocked speeds and weight coming out of high school. Is it possible that with some added muscle weight that Hayes could lose some of his speed too?

I do not think Oku's problem is his speed or weight, I think his problem is vision. He always seems to be dancing around and never hits the hole hard ( wait for the "thats what she said" comment). Also he can't break tackles. I think he is just a player that does a lot of things decent but does nothing great. All in all I think his vision and lower body strength needs work.

Agreed, that's been my take. Prepare for the slaughter, you just took the enemies stance.

Obviously he was in the band.

not hardly and yes i did play football and yes it is dificult to come from one side of the field all the way to the other in order to make a tackle. it is a simple fact that in order to do so you have to travel a greater distance than someone who is running in a straignt line.

I would like to see us use Oku in the passing game more. I wonder if he would be able to react better down field when he only has to worry about "dancing" around one or two defenders, instead of having to try and find a whole near the line of scrimmage.

OK, take Bigello and Bellemy out of the equation. Say we take Hayes, which in that case is fine with me. Who do we cut, or do we cut anyone? I don't think we should cut anyone, but that's just my opinion. But I think that started alot of this. I ask you because you stick by your guns/opinion, as I stick by mine, regardless who I'm debating with. We have some followers on here, makes me laugh. :lolabove::lolabove::lolabove:

He does look MUCH better in open space, I MUST agree.

We don't cut any body. I was under the impression that we would be taking two RBs in this class regardless of who they were.

Okay after reading 10 pages on arguments here are my thoughts.

1st, Hayes does'nt posses true breakaway speed. I'm not saying he is slow by any means, he does have some speed but not breakaway speed like Bellamy, Young, or Bigelow. He does have some great vision & cut back ability.

2nd, were not getting Bigelow & Bellamy. Heck we wont even get 1 of those to go along with Hayes if he wanted to come. We have 1 spot left at RB, the staff wants a speedster. The first one to commit out of those 3 will get the spot & we will be done at RB. So for those people thinking we could take 2 out of those 3 you've lost your mind it's not happening.

3rd, Young is not a RB for this class. He is a KR/PR for us & will run some special packages on Offense like the wildcat & end round we see run with Da'Rick.

4th, I'll take Hayes right now because you can never have to many RB's.

i would like to see that also. he had one against vandy but i wasn't really in space it was more down the sideline.we seem to be running more rail routes than anything with our backs.

Wow, after looking at Hayes' junior film, if you guys don't think that is impressive, you are smoking crack. We have wanted this guy all along. Let's have him in Orange along with DA and rob Michigan of their two playmakers. Boom.

Does anyone have any info about what happened on his trip to ND?

Must have been something pretty extreme to make a high character guy like Hayes decommit
