'11 SC S Pat Martin - UT Signee

"Once I commit, then I'm going to go all-out," Martin said. "I'm going to try to get everybody. I want Gabe Wright, DeAnthony Arnett and others. Just all the best players."

He'll commit when all of this commotion of the bar brawl dies down. I don't blame him either, if I was about to commit to a school and then something to this affect occurred I would hold off putting my name in association with an institution where this event just took place. After all of this is put to bed, he'll be a Vol by early August.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. He was waiting awhile regardless. Otherwise he would have openly commit on his most recent visit. He's just enjoying the process...

Dooley recommends to each recruit to visit at least twice; preferably three times before going public on a commitment. It is a pretty smart move because once guys commit they know exactly where they want to go and are more solid commits than someone that has visited just once. Its pretty obvious where Martin is going.

Will be back for camp July 20-22. Look for a possible commitment.

That's what I was just thinking.

It he wants to help pull guys like Wright and Arnett, he'll have to start really recruiting them early on. Since that is so, he'd have to commit early on, too.

I agree with you that he may probably commit during/after camp.

Pat said the thing he is looking forward to the most at the camp is hanging out with the coaches again... especially Peter Sirmon. I thought that was a bit surprising.

Sirmon=getting the job done.

yeah, he really likes him a lot. Said Sirmon gave him a big hug the first time they met, and it left a good impression on him.

Sirmon is an awesome dude. Met him when he was with the Titans and he acts like hes known you forever when talking to him.

Top 5 priority in a good salesman/recruiter. Makes the customer feel that extreme sense of comfort.

per SC paper

JL Mann DB Pat Martin (6-0 192) plans to take one final visit to Tennessee and USC before making his decision before the start of the school year. Martin will be at Tennessee July 22nd and USC the following day. He's narrowed his decision to those two and said the Vols are out front right now. "Their coaches are very truthful, not that USC's aren't," Martin said. "Their program is going to be great in a couple of years." But Martin did not rule out USC's chance for overcoming the Vols. "They have a chance," he said. "I've got to talk to their coaches more in depth." Martin talked with his Tennessee recruiter last Sunday, and he talked with USC recruiter Shawn Elliott on Tuesday.

I'd like to get Downs in too... That would make my month.

I've been thinking a little on the "you can't win championships with 3* player" argument... I'm wondering how much "system" has to do with that and especially on O.

The SEC really doesn't have a power running team any more unless you say it is Bama. Everyone else is finesse. DD is recruiting/building large bulldozer type OL's. He's recruiting to go TE heavy. His first independent RB commit is clearly a power back.

You take talented, intelligent, hardworking, "character" players at those positions who happen to be 3* then add 4-5* WR's, RB's, and QB's... You might just end up with a winning system that doesn't need to be in the top 5 of recruiting rankings every year.

On D, I think you can build LB's out of lower rated LB's and S's. You can definitely build DT's. You need pure talent at DE, CB, and S.

In my judgment, the "star" system is most accurate predicting the talent of WR's, DE, CB, and S... followed by QB and RB and possibly DT... but not all that critical or accurate for TE's, FB's, LB's, or OL's.

Martin won't commit during camp publicly if he is going to USC the next day.

However, if he does want to recruit others to his school of choice then he needs to commit soon and start making hey.

I think that's the biggest factor for him. I believe he wants to commit with some other guys so he is waiting until he can get them on board.

How many commitments should we expect coming out of the camp.

I think there are two strong possibilities: Pat Martin and Mack Crowder.

I expect the 2 you expect in the week after camp. If Downs makes it, I expect him too.

Outside of those 3, I'd say the next best guess would be Kerbyson.
