'11 SC S Pat Martin - UT Signee

Thanks nicksjuzunk for the insight. I tend to think he's a heavy Vol lean, but thought we may have heard more since the "incident." Being in Martin's area in SC, I'd love to claim another SC boy that the Cocks couldn't land!

He did "like" Corey Miller's status of the team still being a team, etc.

Martin is probably a Silent to the vols.

Honestly I think he is a vol lock but will make it public at the Army game

Good to hear. Hopefully we can pull Martin and Avery Walls, shift Janzen and Walls to corner, and have Martin/Loften/Randolph as our safeties and nickelback.

Yes, Kiffin said last year during camp the Janzen's natural position was corner...but obviously that was before he had such a good season at safety.

Not that I know of, but I've read that many consider CB Janzen's best natural position.

Many said the same thing about Eric Berry.

Janzen is better suited at safety. He doesn't have the best hips for CB but he can cover ground in a hurry and lay the wood.... which is perfect for safety.

Janzen is pretty small for a safety and doesn't have the instincts that Berry possesses

He's bigger than Berry and he has the whole package just like Berry did. He won't show up with as many INTs / return yardage, but he can do just about everything else and actually is a better cover man. Plus he's going to be returning punts.

I'm not saying he's better than Berry... but he's got the same potential.

not as big as Berry. Janzen is about 180. If he played CB he could shut down one side of the field by himself.

I think that way, too.

A defensive backfield like this would be excellent:

CB: Janzen Jackson
FS: Pat Martin
SS: Eddrick Loften/ Brian Randolph
CB: Avery Walls
Nickel: Brian Randolph

Randolph growing into an OLB could also be a possibility. However, if we swap to a 3-4, he'd really be too small, then. I think his best position would be at Nickel or Safety if Loften doesn't make it in to UT.

We'd have a young but VERY talented defensive backfield.

That's not to mention some of the young guys we already have.

Hopefully Marcques Dixon and Dave Clark make it in, too, and we'd really be set in the defensive backfield for years to come.

That's an awful lot of love for Brian Randolph.

Some* consider him to be a better talent than Martin or Walls, but because he was injured his Junior year he is rated so much lower.

I'd like to see Martin, Walls, and Randolph all be 4-stars by the time NSD rolls around...if they all become Vols, that is.

*Guys that are familiar with Georgia high school football. Like GT09, IIRC.
