'11 SC S Pat Martin - UT Signee

Don't take this the wrong way....

My advice is to stay out of the recruiting forum until you get a better grip on exactly how fickle this whole ordeal is. 18 year olds tend to change their minds.

Martin seems like a lock. But nothing is official till he signs the LOI or enrolls early.

If you believe that, why follow recruiting at all? If you really think you can't consider any commit a lock until NSD, there's no point in following it. Just check who signs LOIs on NSD....

Nothing is guaranteed. Even after a kid signs his LOI he can jet. Just ask Bryce Brown.

FINALLY! Someone gets it!:p

"It really came down to trust," Martin said. "I don't want to play for a coach that I don't trust. These coaches are really great and that's why I'm going to go where I'm going."

"I've notified the coaching staff," Martin said. "They told me I was a big get for there class and I know they are really excited."

"I'm already friends with some good players," Martin said. "I'm going to hype up the school I'm going to and try to get some great players to join me."

-Would really suck if all this was about S. Carolina.

It'd suck even worse if he was talking about Lane Kiffin and Willie Mack Garza.

But he's not.

The guy I was replying to called himself a "dumbass".

....you can follow recruiting but when you are registering on random boards just to get insight on the thought of a minor, and publicly calling yourself a dumbass for doing so, something is wrong.

I can follow recruiting and be informed, but freaking out over it (good or bad) isn't and won't be in the gameplan.

Registering on random boards to get insight on the thought of a minor = following recruiting

I'm just not understanding why you're bashing the guy for asking a question.

If he called himself a dumbass, that's a different story. I can't help the guy there.

You can find guys freaking out over anyone we're after who hasn't publicly committed their undying love for UT.

BTW, he set his commitment presser within days of this article: "Another trip to Rocky Top has Martin smiling" (Scout)

And prior to putting USCjr in his top 2 along with UT, he had LSU there.

It's always been UT. He just wanted to make 100% sure.

Reasons: UT > USCjr, depth chart, good school for his major, favorite player is Eric Berry, said that USCjr would have to blow him away... the last time USCjr blew away a recruit on a visit was Jarvis Giles (he was SOOO impressed that he gottake a picture with Michael Phelps on his OV --- only reason Phelps was even on the campus was because he was dating a chick swimmer from USCjr at that time)... and he's been recruiting for UT for awhile now. He's stated that he will "talk up" the program he's chosen. How much could he really talk up USCjr? What's there to really sell? How dumb would he look recruiting guys to UT for months, then choosing a school that's never even played IN an SEC championship game?? A school and fanbase that gets excited (instead of infuriated) with 7-6 seasons???? Not to mention the fact that the coaching staff probably won't be at USCjr for his entire 4-year eligibility. Steve Spurrier has had long enough to do something with that program. Football has passed him by just like it did CPF. If he doesn't retire in the next 5 years, I will be absolutely shocked.
FYI, I have seen quite a few recruits say they were blown away by South Carolina when they visited. I read two or three say recently in the past several weeks.Say what you want, I am not here for smack. Pat Martin is a good player, but South Carolina is getting a player out of Florida who said he is commtting to them when he gets to Columbia and that also plays Martin
position. He said it last week and is expected soon. Also, they are in the top two or lead for a couple of others. The coaches were going to take the first one who committed out of Martin and the Florida guy. Well , Montgomery said he is committing.
That will be the fourth DB for Carolina. Spurrier and the coaches were honest with Martin and let him know what's going on. I highly doubts he even visits.

Were they from Columbia? :eek:lol:

Anyone who would choose South Carolina over Tennessee (even in it's current down status) would be crazy, unless they live in Columbia. Bigger stadium, more tradition, national championships, highest paid player in the NFL (Manning), highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL, highest paid safety in NFL history as a rookie (Eric Berry), better facilities, etc, etc, etc. There's just really not much of an argument there sorry man. Tennessee gets better players than USCjr so that's to be expected.

With that said, USCjr can have the guy from Florida. We'll take Pat Martin.

No, they from different areas of the country, most recently Florida. I could talk smack, but I won't let you bait me into it. Congrats on Martin. It appears he may be announcing if he doesn't decide to wait. That's how kids are.

Ok right on man, like you said you aren't here for smack talk so it's cool. I guess I've just never heard anyone besides Jarvis Giles or a guy who lives more than 50 miles from USCjr's campus actually say those words.

You don't follow South Carolina. I do. The most recent was Blakely. Yeah, he's probably going to UF. They blow away everybody.

Didn't you know, he knows everything about recruiting (sarcasm). Don't waste your posts on that guy, he likes to talk out of his ***.

As for knowing everything about recruiting or even thinking so...hardly...but I do know a lot about South Carolina's and you can't say differently.

Living in South Carolina, and frequent visitor to Columbia . . . I'm blown away that anyone would be blown away by a visit to that cesspool.
