UPDATE: We thought (below) that South Carolina might have made an 11th-hour steal by getting in-state, four-star safety Pat Martin to come to Columbia one last time before making his college choice.

But Martin of J.L. Mann (Greenville, S.C.) tells Phil Kornblut on GoGamecocks.com that he won't be visiting Steve Spurrier, and he'll announce his decision Sunday between South Carolina and Tennessee, his rumored favorite.

"I know where I'm going," Martin said. "I've seen what I need to see. I've seen everything I need to see at both schools."

All indications point toward the Vols, considering he reportedly talks to their coaches nearly every day and hasn't given the Gamecocks a call since last week.

so i finally looked at his formspring. some SCock mentioned he said someone else would be committing with him and according to Martin thats true. any merit or knowledge of this and who it may be? would it be for us or just one of his teammates committing elsewhere? is it just smoke?

edit: he also said you have to watch to find out.

If he's not bs'ing and someone else is announcing their commitment to UT with him this Sunday my guess would be Lateek Townsend.

I don't think he made a formal public pledge to commit to anyone this Sunday. I just made an educated guess after paying attention to Pat & Lateek's threads. I'm not basing my guess on anything other than the fact they seem to be friends, Pat's been recruiting him hard to UT and Lateek once posted on FB that he thought they were announcing together. I don't fb stalk them fwiw, I'm just payin attention to what's been posted on VN. I sure hope I'm right :)

That wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. Why commit then decommit then recommit? Of course I've learned to never try to apply logic to these kids thinking after one being swayed by an ice cream machine in the dorm.

Let's hope AJ Johnson does exactly what you just mentioned. ha

Edit: Let's just hope Pat commits. I don't ever feel comfortable enough to say anyone is a lock, but I would hope he is as close as it gets.

I agree. I don't feel safe with a prospect until they fax their LOI and Tennessee confirms they've received it.

Unless he is blowing more smoke out of his *&% that the train at Dollywood, he could not be more locked.

I doubt any recruit could ever, or would have the motivation to, sell one fanbase so hard and then screw them just for jollies. Sure, they can lead people a bit and then turn it, but not this bad... so Vol.

Just talked to Martin, he said that noone is announcing with him that a few recruits will be there to watch. He said that he plans on being an EE & that he wants to take visits to UCLA, OU, & LSU during the season.

That just sounds outstanding. Why not wait to commit if he still wants to take visits?

IMO it's because he is All Vol & that he just wants to take a few visits to see other places. He WONT waiver at all IMO once he commits. Him taking other visits could help us as he might be in other recruits ears at those places talking UT up to them.
