'11 TN QB Mike Wegzyn

Antonio Heffner from Memphis. Played some ball at South Carolina and later transferred to Tennessee State

Wow, this even further proves the point I made. I think it might actually be impossible for a TN HS QB to succeed at a major university. I wonder what the reason for this is? Perhaps it is that TN ball is run oriented? Maybe its that they don't see challenging pass-defenses? Or could it be that TN's education system is among the worst in the country, and kids don't develop a good system of competitive learning? TN high schools have produced future starters in the NFL from virtually EVERY other position. So why is it that QB's are left out of this equation?

The most obvious, Chad Pennington.

Forgot about Chad. But even he says that the greatest impact on his ability at QB was how challenging the cirriculum at Webb was. I'm thinking that our education system sets up QB's to fail.

Mike Wegzyn spent last Saturday at Vandy who loves this kid and then Sunday and Monday in Northwestern who rolled out the red carpet for him. He has brains and talent but CDD hasn't invited him to the orange and white game. LSU, Auburn, Duke and a bunch of others had him at their spring games. Why don't we recruit our own hometown talent? Spring football at Knox Catholic starts Monday and there will be a ton of college coaches there to see Wegzyn and Kerbyson.

He is not too high on their QB board I don't think.

IMHO the staff didn't have QB as a priority until Nick left. Now they will need to rethink the position since Bray probably won't get to redshirt. Have heard from good sources that CJC loves the kid. But have also heard the kid is no longer high on UT because they have ignored him for too long while other programs have made it clear that they are very interested and impressed. Like Kerbyson, he is a smart kid who is looking at the academic side of schools. UT is a good school but isn't in the same academic league as Vandy, Northwestern, or Duke.

If anyone from Knoxville chooses any of those 3 schools you named over Tennessee, then good luck to them haha.

I think he will have to prove himself in camp and this season to possibly get an offer.

I know it is hard for those of us on this board to understand, but the school the degree comes from is sometimes the bigger picture. Better luck in life and in med school or law school will be found from those three schools. You are't dealing with kids who plan on making football a career when you deal with the kids from Catholic.

If you have offers from UT, USC, and Bama (Kerbyson), I think you have a pretty solid shot at making a career of footbabll...

Not true. You might can make 4 years out of it....but not a career. Very very few of the players that play college football end up in the NFL or some other further football. He does have a better "shot" at those schools, but it's up to him. Personally, I think a degree from those schools is just as good as another, unless it's in law or medicine or something. Dunno what he wants to go into.

Thrilled to see Wegzyn coming to the Orange and White game. Thought he wrote off TN and was going to Auburn's game. Glad to see he is still all Vol!

If he has a good senior season and showing at camps this summer, he and Worley could be our two QB's for this class. I wouldn't be surprised.

Agree Hopeful. They would be a nice team. Kind of like Da'Rick and Nance. Maybe even better since Kerbyson is OL.

If the kid is good, he'll get the job. Especially if he does turn out to be a good QB.

I saw that OSU might be in play for him know. Apparantly looked really good at the Midwest Elite Camp. Good size for a QB also.

Any updates on him? When will he be evaluated by Rivals? Only offers I see now are EMU and Buffalo...
