'11 TN QB Mike Wegzyn

MW Ultimate 100 standouts:

ASSETS: Tremendous height, solid overall mechanics and a strong arm.

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Strong-armed signal callers think they can fit the ball in anywhere. Wegzyn needs to not roll out and throw back across middle of the field. Improving decision making and knowing when to eat he ball is a must.

WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: He showed the ability to look the safety off and hit the long seam pass right down the middle of the field. He also proved to have excellent arm strength and accuracy when rolling right. Wegzyn was a no-brainer for QB MVP.

CONCLUSION: Currently has two MAC offers but looked every bit the part of a major pro-style quarterback prospect in this camp. If college coaches are still in the need for a coachable gunslinger then they need to look this kid up in Knoxville.

Why is VN so infatuated?

VN is supporting him because he is now a hometown kid and we support our hometown kids. I know he just moved here from Michigan, but that was because he father lost his job up there and a better job was here in Knoxville. Can't blame the kid for having to move. So, since the boy has already endured some hard times back home and is now here in Knox trying to have something positive happen in life with football, I am cheering for him. He is the underdog, and I like to see the underdog succeed. Chavisut, please give the kid a break and be positive.:)

There's a ringing endorsement. He'll be better than the overrated piece of trash who barely won the UTC starting job. The entire SEC should be beating down Wegzyn's door to get his commitment. Eastern Michigan and Buffalo know something the big boys in college football don't.

The thing Eastern Michigan and Buffalo know that the big boys don't is how good the kid is and what his potential is. The northern guys have seen him. The "big boys in college football" haven't discovered him yet. He is going to blow up on the scene once the high school season starts. I don't understand how people can rip kids apart on these boards. From what I hear, Wegzyn has lots of interest from the "big boys" after airing out the ball at summer camps. They will be watching his first couple of games at Catholic. And, by the way, BJ is a very talented QB, imo.

If the north knows he's the real deal, then where are all his big 10 offers?

Descent high school QB. Not a D1 QB and he ran from competition at a big time school to play at UTC.

Wegzyn's 2010 stats: 67 of 131 (51%) for 881 yards, 6 TDs and 5 INTs...has rushed for 189 yards on 29 attempts (6.5 YPC).

His passing stats last year: 63-141 (45%) for 746 yards, 5 TDs & 8 INTs.

IMO, based just on his numbers, he appears to have SEC size but not SEC skills.

Yep, all the best to him, but he will not be in Division 1 football in my opinion.
