'12 AL OT Victor Salako (UAB player)

I would think Louisville might be a factor here. The OC Garrick McGee was the head coach at UAB for a short stint and would have some background with Victor

Garrick McGee is a very unpopular name around what was UAB football.

Yes he did. This Arkansas team wins 9 games in Big 10 most likely.

Absolutely. And really he could and really should have beaten Ala, A'M, Mizzou and Miss St. Outside of AU and even that was close till end of the third Arky had a lot of games they were winnable but found ways to lose them. Like you said they easily win 9-10 in the Big 10.

Exactly. They finally made a good hire getting Clark from Jax St. He brought discipline and really good coaching to that team. They had Marshall beat 2 weeks ago but just couldn't finish it. He will be a great DC pickup for any school and hopefully he gets a shot as a HC somewhere.

So you have been to games can you recall this guy not doing well? I know you say we want none of these guys and in general I am sure that is the case. Did this guy stand out in a bad way though? I know he is not UT level when fully up to standards but do you think he could beat out a true freshman? I haven't quibbled with you because i realize this is a stretch and I respect your perspective if you have anything to share.

Ridiculous how they bold face lied to that man about the future of the football program before hiring him

I always said that UAB would have a hard time being successful until they hired a guy with deep alabama ties like troy did with Coach Blakeney (who coached at my high school for a couple years, in i guess it was 75-76).

Clark was a long time high school coach here and coached at USA before Jax St. I said when he was hired that he was a perfect fit and that if he couldn't succeed then no one could. He was the perfect hire, it was just too late.

Oh I know. He had just taken the Jacksonville St HC job and got them into the playoffs and set several records his first yr but was lied to to convince him to take the UAB job. I don't blame him for making the move but they completely screwed him. Guarantee somebody will pick him up in some form next season.

Yea he was a great HS Coach and won several state titles at Prattville. Makes me wonder if maybe Troy goes after him..Would be a great hire for them and like you said has the Ala Roots that made Blakeny a perfect choice for them just like USA hiring Joey Jones.

Troy hired Neal Brown the OC from Kentucky. He's very young, only 34 I believe, and was the OC at troy under Blakeney from 08-09 at the age of 28. He's not exactly a guy with Alabama roots, but he has been around the program at least.

I love keeping up with the smaller schools in the state.

Confirmed Bielema to stay a Hog.

Would love to see some positive movement on Victor. Who wouldn't want a guy on their team with that name?

In my mind from the games I saw he wasn't a guy that stood out, or seemed to be better than many of the teams they played LT. One of the games I went to went too was the La Tech game with my family and the OL as a whole really struggled in pass protection. Where UAB stood out is where you an others have mentioned in the run game, they were significantly bigger than almost every DL they played, but struggled when Clements threw anything down field, they stuck mostly to quick screens slants and outs. I my opinion their best unit was the WRs and their playmaking ability.

The two guys on that team that would be an option that I think a major program would take is the RB as mentioned by a lot of people and Jake Ganus the LB, he went to Vestavia for a while then transferred to chelsea so I know him and his family pretty well and he is just an all around great kid from a great family, he started at safety his freshman year then moved to LB, he's a guy that can play sideline to sideline really well and plays smart.

So you are saying he's well versed in the Bajakian offense. Lol

A friend on Twitter said he read that these 2 former UAB Blazers may be considering The Ville. Anybody heard anything reliable?

And we do have some VN twitter warriors getting his name out there too.

Im saying that its not like their OL is as good as you are making them out to be, I just looked it up and they allowed 28 sacks this year which puts them tied for 85th in the country. I realize we are lower than that but we started 2 true freshman and all new lineman in the best conference in the country against I counted 7 DL who are projected 1st or 2nd round draft picks this coming draft. Im not giving the OL an excuse for allowing over 40 sacks this year, because they will see the same amount of talent next year, but none of the guys on the UAB OL are the answer.

I understand what you mean. I simply see it as a depth issue causing guys to play all out of position. I have a hard time believing this guy cannot add depth. I mentioned with the AR video I posted the guards where getting blown up and I am not suggesting take their whole oline. But I respect your opinion.

Basically none and if there were it could be another Blair that needs a year. Give me the dude that just got done handling business against Arkansas and Miss St over the guy that finished playing West Monroe dental school any day.

Hey now... the Fightin' Molars are terribly underrated.

OT: I think your football man crush on this guy is justified.
