'12 AL OT Victor Salako (UAB player)

They had an OL drafted two years ago and he's still in the league. We understand that most of their players aren't a fit for us, but we only need one.

They also have roddy white in the NFL and have a QB in the NFL in Joe Webb, but that doesn't mean anything about their current players

Even on the worst teams in nation there is a guy or two that would interest most teams with immediate needs. If you can get a free agent at a position of need that has been in college strength program or games for multiple years then you have to do due diligence and research their roster. I don't have a clue if he is any good but just saying he sucks because he plays for UAB is silly.

Never said he sucks just because he plays at UAB, I'm saying that there's not a player on UABs roster right now that we should take.

You obviously follow the program somewhat, so I'll defer to you. Just seems that our need at OT is quite great.

No way you've ever watched a UAB game.

Also I watched every UT game and went to several.

No you are totally right. It's just one guy at one position that we need experienced depth at. Like I said in first post. It will never happen but we discuss more random guys even than this so I thought wth. Remember Dooley poached Malik from USC. Apples and oranges on rankings I realize but Malik wasn't seeing playing time unlike this guy.

IMO would be some good pub for Tennessee as well. UAB shuts down the program hanging all those guys out to dry. In comes CBJ to give 1-2 of them a new place to call home. Be 1 of the 1st to dip into that roster and most likely you get all the headlines.

I am a season ticket holder, I mainly have them to give to customers and support the community, but if it doesn't interfer with tennessee games I'll usually go for a half or so

I want to say there is some kind of exception to the scholarship number limit for situations like this as well to where it doesn't effect your 82 number for taking on a kid from a shut down program. That may just talking out of my butt but I feel like I have heard that before

I really think that if the coaches didn't think that Blair could turn it around they wouldn't have go through the trouble of redshirting him

We basically are begging for a 2012 oline class. This guy is not a 4* consensus AA but he's a RS 2 year starter on a team that made a bowl. It will not happen but I have little doubt that a guy like this could help our sitaution. Anyways back to discussing memphis.

Jordan Howard RB (SO) 1,643 Yards and 13 TDs. Caught 9 passes for 72 Yards and 1 TD.

Cody Clements QB(JR) 66.5% passer, 2227 Yards, 14 TDs. 8 INTs. Also rushed for 160 yards and 4 TDs.

Just a couple other UAB kids who look to be productive.

I live here in birmingham and I can tell you that if we are taking transfers from a program that is going to get shut down for, let's be honest, being terrible, then we have bigger problems.

You do realize it is possible for a good player to play on a bad team, right?

Summarily dismissing a guy because he plays for Team XYZ is kinda short-sighted. And, by the way, the fact that you live in Birmingham in and of itself doesn't make you an expert on UAB football.

Here's a couple of players who might be good for depth

Even Orth QB 6-3 195 Freshman
Jeremiah Briscoe QB 6-3 210 Freshman
Joseph Roberts LB 6-3 215 Freshman
Brandon Fuller LB 6-1 220 Freshman

Phil Simms who's in the NFL HOF was on an 0-11 Morehead State team his senior season and was still drafted in the 1st round.

But I think the fact that I went to some games this year and have watched UAB a lot more this year than you ever have and ever will in your life might make me more of an expert than you are.

It amazing how no one cared about UAB football until they were going to get shut down, now I have people like you telling me that I know nothing about UAB football when Ive been going to games since Watson Brown was there because he lived down the street from me.

You watched a few games.... good for you. Still not an expert. I never claimed to be.

If our coaches find him fit to recruit I will defer to them... unless you get on here and let us know you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

That would change EVERYTHING.

What trouble do coaches go through to redshirt a guy? They don't play, they get a redshirt. Doesn't seem like much trouble to me. I mean they redshirt walk-ons after all, so it doesn't necessarily mean that they think he is going to turn it around and be great next year. Not saying that he won't but I don't think him being redshirted is any sort of indication one way or the other.

Vols "squeezed" out an OT win over UAB last time they played. Who in the hell are Tennessee fans to turn their nose at some kid at UAB?

There's probably a lot of kids there just as good or better than what Tennessee has. That's the problem

UAB was 89th in sacks given up. Just a random tidbit. (Yes I know they play a weak schedule)
Pretty damn sure their line would give up less sacks to Vandy and Chattanooga than ours did. I would definitely look at getting one of the transfers in IF Butch thinks they can contribute. It's not just we don't have a starter, we have ZERO depth at tackle period. IDK if there is a quick fix but I would look into some of these kids. You might even be able to get a situation where someone would walkon?
