'12 AL OT Victor Salako (UAB player)

It would take 1-2 spots from the 85. With several commits taking visits, maybe it comes down to that recruit losing his spot and it not being filled by a signee and maybe by a transfer.

Yes, transfers do not count against the 2015 class signees, but when you are planning to over sign by as many as UT is transfers have to play into the class count then.

Anyone else have this picture of LV in their head?

Was there a case few years back when teams were allowed to go over the 85 num. If they took some of Penn States' players- could this happen

I think something like that may have happened. Maybe it was just they could transfer w/out sitting a year. I don't recall for sure.

Penn state transfers didn't count against the limit I think.

Here is what I found.

The NCAA hit the team with yearly and overall scholarship reductions, a four-year postseason ban, huge fines against the university and allowed for any player to transfer to any other school without having to sit out a season. To facilitate as much player movement as possible, NCAA president Mark Emmert permitted other programs to use 2013 scholarships if they wanted to bring in 2012 Penn State players.

So maybe UAB players could be brought in for 2015, but it would count against your 2016 class numbers? More less to me that says they could against the 85.

No way we take a guy from UAB

Wondering if you have any specifics about this player or just the fact he plays for UAB? Reason I ask this is because there is a DT starting for the KC Chiefs, Dontarius Poe, who played for Memphis when they couldn't beat UT Martin or MTSU. The point being there are good players on bad teams, and if the coaches thought he could help this team, I doubt they care he plays for UAB at this time. Not saying I would take all their players, but this guy might be able to help us out.

Agree completely.

I'd love to get Jordan Howard, Jr (next year) RB or Jake Ganus, Sr (next year) LB. Howard would be a great 3rd RB and Ganus could push to start or be a solid backup at the very least. Ganus reminds me of Austin Johnson but can rush the passer too. Not particularly great at anything but solid and a hard worker. Howard reminds me of Lane a little bit.

Anyone who watched the Vols play UTC this earlier this year saw what thier defensive line did to UT's offensive line would encourage Jones to get as many experienced offensive linemen on the roster asap.

A solid offensive line next season could be the difference in going 9-3 or 6-6.

I live here in birmingham and I can tell you that if we are taking transfers from a program that is going to get shut down for, let's be honest, being terrible, then we have bigger problems.

I would tend to agree, just because they are big does not mean they can move

Is this guy at least all conference in what ever crappy conference UAB was in?

No but he did replace one as a RS Freshman. They brought in jucos but this kid never lost his spot. Also as a Sophomore he probably wasn't ready to compete for those honors. That said he has the size and now 2 full years of snaps at the position plus a RS year of S&C.
With all the press of the UAB situation I doubt they close right now however if they did I find it very easy to see how a guy like this would be desired by many programs. 6'6" 315lb LT's with 2 years experience including SEC game experience do not grow on trees.

He played against Arkansas and I posted some footage. Watch the guy. He wasn't getting beat on the edge. He looked like any other serviceable run of the mill don't look at me I'm handling my business OT. Which is a fair bit better than we have done at times. Now their guards got blown up a bit but Arkansas has good D.

No one on here is an expert, so thats the dumbest argument I've ever heard haha I voiced my opinion (which is what this board is for) that I don't think that we would take a UAB player and you are the one who accused me of being an expert, which I replied I bet I know more about UAB than you do, which doesn't make me an expert by any means, The only reason the word expert was used is cause you decided to accuse me of claiming to be an expert, and all I said was if knowing more about UAB football than you makes me an expert than I guess I am. If this is an expert only area then we are going to have very few post.

So get off my back for posting my opinion. Ill make any bet with you in the world that I'm more right about this than you.
Your only criteria for why we shouldn't take him, or any UAB player, was because they played for a program that was so bad that they're getting shut down. That has no legitimate football evaluation. Just a complete blanket statement. This was their best team in 10 years, since they had a guy named Roddy White. Would you have passed on him just because he played for UAB?

Bottom line is, if you can evaluate football talent and film beyond "they play for a school that's getting shut down for being bad," you can see that these few guys like Salako and Jordan Howard are good enough to play SEC ball and for us. Not saying they'd be all conference right away or anything, but they would not be buried to the point that they'd be a waste of a scholarship.
