Vols "squeezed" out an OT win over UAB last time they played. Who in the hell are Tennessee fans to turn their nose at some kid at UAB?
There's probably a lot of kids there just as good or better than what Tennessee has. That's the problem
Agreed.Living in Bham I have pulled for UAB outside of being a VFL. Since I hate Ala and AU I just pulled for UAB to do well. It's really pathetic that Ala would play FCS teams instead of playing UAB, a team that is run by the same board of directors as Alabama. Ala just would never allow them to do anything that would help benefit UAB. Jimbo Fisher was set to take the job before he got the FSU job but Ala blocked it and screwed UAB again. But them refusing to ever play UAB in football is truely lowdown. But UAB has players in the NFL and guarantee they have atleast a few SEC type players. Biggest thing would be if they have the grades to do it. Some guys that have Ala and AU talent but not the grades often went to UAB instead of Juco. So. Miss lived off guys that couldn't get into AU and Ala but then UAB moved up as did S.Ala and those guys stayed instate instead of going to S.Miss.
Salako is an honor roll kid and was in HS. I'm telling you i did the research and this is about as perfect fit as you get. He'll probably go somewhere else but it's funny we need a LT, we need a 2012 olinemen, we need one with experience and then voila UA BOT drops UAB and this guy out of the sky.
Your only criteria for why we shouldn't take him, or any UAB player, was because they played for a program that was so bad that they're getting shut down. That has no legitimate football evaluation. Just a complete blanket statement. This was their best team in 10 years, since they had a guy named Roddy White. Would you have passed on him just because he played for UAB?
Bottom line is, if you can evaluate football talent and film beyond "they play for a school that's getting shut down for being bad," you can see that these few guys like Salako and Jordan Howard are good enough to play SEC ball and for us. Not saying they'd be all conference right away or anything, but they would not be buried to the point that they'd be a waste of a scholarship.

Completely agree. I was solidly in the "they just need more time to develop" camp, but seeing our OL get blown up by UTC and then Vandy jaded me. We have no serviceable OTs (or at least LTs) and mediocre developmental progress across the line. This roster full of Guards desperately needs an infusion of OT talent and IMHO a new OL coach.
