'12 AL OT Victor Salako (UAB player)

Marshall game from this year. You can see him clearly around 20 min and 30 min marks. You can see him moving his feet and using his hands. He's number 77. The one knock I see on him is he doesn't run down field or follow the play etc but a lot of linemen his size don't.

Anyone else have this picture of LV in their head?

Computer-hacker.jpg

I thought they caught the Unibomber?

He played against Arkansas and I posted some footage. Watch the guy. He wasn't getting beat on the edge. He looked like any other serviceable run of the mill don't look at me I'm handling my business OT. Which is a fair bit better than we have done at times. Now their guards got blown up a bit but Arkansas has good D.

You had me at not getting beat off the edge which is already an immense upgrade over what we have currently.

Anyone who watched the Vols play UTC this earlier this year saw what thier defensive line did to UT's offensive line would encourage Jones to get as many experienced offensive linemen on the roster asap.

A solid offensive line next season could be the difference in going 9-3 or 6-6.

Completely agree. I was solidly in the "they just need more time to develop" camp, but seeing our OL get blown up by UTC and then Vandy jaded me. We have no serviceable OTs (or at least LTs) and mediocre developmental progress across the line. This roster full of Guards desperately needs an infusion of OT talent and IMHO a new OL coach.

I think utc had more sacks against us than anyone else. Couple of their games I couldn't find, but the 9 I could find, we gave up the most sacks.

Bring him in. Coach him up. Put him in the weight room and nutritional program. He is probably more serviceable for next year than a raw freshman who has only played against HS competition. This kid has played against grown men and has held his own. At worst, he will provide good depth.

Also, in my opinion, we are one injury away from WISHING we had taken a guy like Victor Salako, if possible.

I agree we need large strong dudes that can play snaps in a bad way. How the hell else do you explain a converted freshman DL recruit starting at UT! I still cannot fathom it.

LMAO!...if we're raiding their roster we should get Jordan Howard up here as well
That's what I said.. They've got a rushing LB like Maggitt with similar stats too, but he has the skills to play MLB too IMO. I said think Austin Johnson with pass rushing skills.

There's at least 3-4 guys I would take from UAB. Taking a proven Jr/Sr, even from UAB, is low risk high reward. I'm all for it

I believe the UAB news is official, saw a tweet from Sportscenter. First program to fold since Pacific in the 90's.

@SportsCenter: UAB to shut down football program, the 1st FBS program to fold since Pacific in 1995. (via @schadjoe & @aldotcom)

Unleash the dragon!

If they do in fact fold this year this kid would be a huge boost to our OT depth. Huge literally and figuratively.

Blair, Kendrick, and Thomas are the only guys larger that will be on our roster next year.

Edit - and aside from Blair @ 6'8" Kendrick and Thomas are essentially the same size as this dude.

SIAP. What are the rules as far as recruiting someone like this? If a program is getting shut down, it's players deserve to explore their options. Can we recruit him?

They'd be immediately eligible to play. Contact rules no one can seem to find though.

I feel like I'm getting excited for something that's not gonna happen!!!! Just like the radio shows in Knoxville talking about Braxton miller comin to UT... When he will go to alabama or someone like that and will have to play them... Instead of us getting lucky and getting some good transfer players for once

We got Malik and Bama and it's BOT is the reason he will be out of a school and scholarship. All that said most SEC schools won't need him or be able to promise him a chance to compete for minutes. We can.

Nor do I.

If UAB shuts it down I am all in favor of this pick up. We need proven depth if not a starter. Salako proved he could play against some good competition and would benefit from Butch's S&C program.

I can guarantee you right now if Jones calls up Bill Clark and says "Coach I know I can't talk to them right now but I've heard the news lately and if this thing happens I think we might have a place for a few of your boys up at Tennessee" that Clark is not going to run to turn him in, NCAA rules or no.

At this point, a depends on the relationship and familiarity between Clark and CBJ or the UAB OL coach and CDM. IMO the first contact would be Clark calling CBJ to gauge interest. Depending on who and how many might want to come to UT, CBJ would balance the numbers in the 2015 class against the 85 limit and against immediate needs to the program and decide whether to extend offers. Offers may have already been extended and either accepted or rejected at this point. I'm sure the UAB coaches have been working non stop to help their kids find a home. Sure like the prospect of immediate OL help to our depth.

If Braxton goes any where it'll be Oregon.

UAB football is officially dead, per most media outlets.

Raid the roster, Jones. Do it now.
