'12 GA LB Khalid Henderson

Henderson is visiting Clemson and some other schools really soon. We will see if he does well enough in their camps to get more offers. That is probably a good sign of how good he is.

I remember when this forum claimed Gionni Paul was a must get for our last class. I remember when this forum FREAKED out when Christian Harris committed and now people are raving about him. The recruiting forum is absurd and anyone that takes the internet coaches opinions seriously.

And when another poster makes a comment in general about a recruit or any other current player these guys act like they are experts. They proceed with their usual posts that try and ridicule to make themselves look superior. For example, some posters will say "posts like these make me laugh", instead of choosing to disagree politely.

I think a lot of visitors to the recruiting forums are just looking for bottom line information about a recruit or how Tennessee is faring with a recruit. Most of the time I could care less about the opinions or discussions that these player threads bring.

IMO it's free entertainment. :loco:

He looks a lot like what they already have on campus, at least to me. Smart, heady guy but looks to me like an average athlete for an SEC linebacker. Tennessee just needs to get better athletes period. And LB is the most glaring need for that. Hopefully they can coach him up and have some success.

I just hope this isn't a sign they aren't feeling too good about some of the big-time LB's they have on the board and seemed to be at least in decent shape with.

You are wrong here. His athleticism is why he got a UT offer. He is definitely an upgrade in that dept.

I was a little dumbfounded by the offer to Harris last year, but then he picked up Stanford and Clemson offers and is now looking just as good, if not better than AJ Johnson.

I am gonna trust the staff knows what they are doing after seeing what happened with Harris.

LV, do you know which LB spot that they project him at?

no. but if i was guessing, i would say OLB cuz of his speed.

our speed at OLB has been pretty bad the past couple of years. we've got improve that and last year's LB class was a VERY good start at accomplishing this.

Thanks. Based on what I read I thought that would be the case. His forty and shuttle looked good to me. Not sure why everybody was down on him. He just hasn't had enough exposure to have a massive offer list, IMO.

The staff has given us as fans no reasons to believe that they can't evaluate. Even the random kids that Dooley took at the end of the '10 class have been decent.

Dooley is very very smart & his evaluation process reflects that. His career is also at stake so he's not just going to take kids for the sake of taking them only to end up unemployed in 2 years.

Because he isn't rated, so obviously he is horrible.

I did a little review of Khalid Henderson. I think the Vols got a very nice prospect, but he's a kid who may take a little time to develop. Absolutely a redshirt kid.

On the positive end of things, he has excellent burst and he brings his man down. He appears patient...allowing him the opportunity to find the ball-carrier and make plays. Khalid plays very well in open space and hits with intensity. Khalid has clips of him at both WR and RB which will benefit him as a LB by allowing him to react on instinct against opponents at positions he understands. Again, nice burst on the ball.

On the negative end of things, and this first is not really a negative...just a fact...he MUST get bigger. If he can add size (muscle and growth) to get to about 210-225...it will help him. In follow-up to that, he tends to get swallowed up by linemen when trying to play between the tackles. 1v1 against a ball-carrier, he's fine. But once he gets to the SEC and has to go through a 280-310 lb OLineman...he needs more size, strength, and leverage. I don't see Khalid as the fastest kid out there. Far from slow, but he can improve his speed. And a final thing he MUST work on is that he tends to make a number of tackles high. If you're going to stop these SEC Running Backs you need to get lower, sqaure-up and bring the wood. Tackling guys at the shoulder pad level sin't going to work most of the time.

-------------

Finally, Scout's preliminary ranking (I expect this to change) only lists the kid at as an unrated 2-star kid. I fully expect that his camp work can boost this kid to a 3/high3-star prospect at OLB. He need to get to work on his videos and hone his skills some.

Bottom line, this is a steal for Tennessee IF!!!! this kid fulfills his potential and puts in the work.

Good breakdown on the kid.

I would like to think if the staff does its job in getting us some difference maker type DL guys then Henderson will benefit from it. It just makes sense that if your DL is taking care of business VS the Oline...then the backers are running free to make plays. I can see where he would do well in that case. I agree he does need to add some size and break down better when making tackles.

Offers can be extended until February. He very well may end up with offers from those schools you mentioned. Check back at that point.

I'll give both of you a little thought. His Recruiting video on Youtube shows that it was posted on March 28, 2011. The kid won a camp MVP and he does have some skill and some definite potential. I think there is a lot there to support the fact that the reason he hasn't gotten a lot of offers yet is due to the fact that he's late in getting his name out there. His hometown of Mableton, GA only has about 30-35,000 people in it. Nothing wrong with that, but that supports the train of thought that he's slow in getting things out.

I can't say that he will - for sure - get offers from UGA, GA Tech, Auburn or whatever...but now that he's on the ball in getting his name out there and he's participating (and winning MVP awards) in camps -- his offer list is sure to grow with big school.

UT got a gem...ahead of the curve on this one.

Mabelton is Metro Atlanta- really no excuse to have his name out there.

haha.... this guy here.

UT got a gem because he watched the Youtube highlights and read somewhere about his camp MVP.

Tweeted a pretty awesome Khalid Henderson UT design (Sab's work, I think). Continuing on the "don't worry about me; I'm a Vol" theme.
