'12 GA LB Khalid Henderson

Started since his freshman year in GA 5A football. If that doesn't tell you anything...

It tells me we jumped on him before he blew up at the other camps. Vol American said he had a great attitude too at camp, helping other players in drills in stead of just looking out for himself.

We really need to improve the caliber of player we get in camps. The campers this year were downright pitiful, makes it harder to judge kids like this when there's not much to compare him to at camp.

Perhaps he was offered for his potential and not his present set of skills. Shoot, some of the best players only show up their junior/senior years here. If the coaches saw something, I'm all for it. Besides, with AJ, Maggitt, and Harris at LB, we may not need to start Henderson right away. It will give the coaches time to develop his footwork, speed, coverskills, and technique.

I don't care what anyone says. I'm glad that he is a Volunteer.

Welcome to Rocky Top, Khalid! We are glad to have you as a part of the family.

my only knock on him is where he is from, that is a harsh part of Atlanta, maybe he wants out and college is his ticket.

The kids from the harshest parts are the best players. The suburban boys are soft. This has been true in football since its origins.

The comments I have read on VN are so entirely uninformed. When I wonder why all the idiot politicians get elected in America all I have to do is read forums like this one.

I'm not (nor was I ever) saying he is a bad pick up. He's got quite a not of fundamental flaws that can be easily fixed with good coaching...which I believe we have. His instincts and nose for the ball are very promising. He's not explosive, but that will cone with S & C. His knack for putting himself in position to make plays reminds of reveiz. I think we got a a solid project player...just gotta build him into something special...that's all.

He ran a 4.5 40. Reveiz was a 4.6 on his best day. He Jumps much higher and is much stronger. He is an elite athlete. We will come back to this thread when all is said and done.

Those are very good points and if he has the discipline and smarts that Reveiz had then he should do well.

I know alot of kids in those harsh areas that are really good kids from good families, but are having a tough time getting out of that enviroment. If he is that determined to get out, then thats who I want on the team. JMO

Every coach's career depends on the level of talent he brings in. Fulmer staked his future on CJ Fleming, it didn't make him a better player or a good take.

Right. The insenuation here is that either the coaches are incompetent in taking a guy who should not be taken or else they're somehow not motivated to sign the best players they can find.... that they are haphazardly throwing scholarships around.

My perception of those comments are that they think these guys are risking their careers without doing the research and work necessary to offer the right guys. If they are then there's no reason to panic. If they're not... then there's still no reason to panic because we'll have new coaches in a couple of years anyway.

This kid is getting by mostly on his athletic ability. He either hasn't been coached up on technique and some fundamentals or he hasn't picked it up yet. However, I see this as a major positive. 5A ball in Georgia is no joke. Several guys on his team are getting offers. K Henderson has a huge upside. You can't teach athleticism and instincts, but you can teach skill and technique.

Welcome to the Vols Khalid. Hope you have a very bright future.

Wow your knocking a guy because he's from "the hood" huh..... if he can play he can play. Also your best athletes as someone else posted are from harsh neighborhoods year in and year out. He's a very very good athlete from what I picked up on in his video. He has long arms too that will come in handy in coverage and chasing down plays from behind. He has a very nice frame too. His style of play reminds me of a young Kevin Burnett(Not saying he's that good). He may not be the biggest hitter all the time but you can feel him when he gets there. We got a very good prospect here who could turn out to be a terror as a Will backer.
