2 examples... well done. You do know that people can give you this same argument for ESPN.

The old Rivals was supreme, but I have no faith in the current Rivals' staff. ESPN and 247 are the two most reliable services in my opinion.

247 is pretty good. Didn't some of the old Rivals evaluators go there? ESPN has improved but you still have to take it with a grain of salt. I wonder what the rankings would be if you were to average the positions of all three recruiting services?

So you agree that Zach Fulton is a 2-star talent and that there were 22 DEs better than Jacques Smith in the 2010 class.

That's my problem with ESPN they don't spend a lot of time evaluating everyone. When they are in depth with guys, they usually nail it. However, there are going to be your Cam Clear's, Fulton's, and Smith's where they do not spend enough resources in evaluating them. If Rivals had the ESPN evaluators, they would be the perfect service IMO

scouts' region scouts are on point.

Chad Simmons is about as good as it gets in the industry

Rivals has by far the best scoring formula...it is set up to favor quality over quantity...but you have to assume their evaluations are right before you believe their scoring...

Rivals sucked last year...no question...but even at that they were still better than Scout and on par with ESPN...I haven't see many evaluations this year where I thought "that is just flat out wrong"...I'm kind of hoping last year was an anomaly...

The best thing they did between last year and this one was firing Barry Every...that doucher actually admitted in a chat that he would push for Bama recruits to have higher ratings...and I know several of us remember his answers during the post-final rating change chat last year

Didn't know Barry got fired. Crap like what he admitted is why you can't trust the recruiting sites too much

I push for Bama recruits to get bumped up in the rankings.

Something like that.

He did the same thing with his old Southeastern Recruiting magazine. Bama fans have always been delusional. I would give anything to see Alabama play by the same rules as everyone else.

FYI...I asked this question on the Rivals main board:

Have you or anyone on the staff had a chance to evaluate Khalid Henderson's film?

If so, would you share your thoughts on him and what (if any) rating you plan to give him?

This is the answer I received from Farrell:

His film arrived to us right after we did our first positional rankings so he will be updated in August when we do our next round of rankings. I can't say what his final ranking will be when we re-do them in August but looking at his film two things stand out -- he is super fast and very instinctive with good ball skills and the ability to drop as well as come up and be a sure tackler but he is also undersized at this time. I know some have him as a four star and others as a two star, but I see him as a low to mid three to me based on film alone. Size is the concern, I know he's listed 6-2 and 215 at the front of his video but I can't see that being accurate.

This will be Keith's initial call because it's his region and I will chime in with my thoughts as well.

I would guess mid to high 3 star is a safe bet.

Farrell hates TN

What I find funny about his comment is that Henderson is somewhere between 6'1"-6'3" and 200-215lbs depending on who you believe...14 of the current 4* OLB's on Rivals fall into this range...

Farrell said himself that Henderson is extemely fast and athletic, has great instincts and is very good in coverage...his only knock is Henderson's size but he and his staff have rated 14 OLB's in the same size range as 4*'s

Exactly...he just can't admit that our staff is good at evaluating talent. He loves to contridict himself.

Brian Randolph never getting his 4th star was enough for me. Rivals is very inconsistent with their ratings.

Hard to trust a recruiting service when they admit to inflating certain teams rankings...

Actually, they fired the guy who admitted to that so you have to give them credit for that...

But I agree that they are horribly inconsistent...I don't know how many times I've seen them quote a reason for keeping a player at a lower rating when there are countless other recruits with the same issue at the same position that are rated higher... like Henderson's "lack of size", Kerbyson's "lack of size", and Randolph's starting off to low in the rankings to be bumped to a 4*(that was my favorite)

It's funny how Greg Reid went from 3 star to 5 star in one week though. Hahahaha

Yeah, they were basically too stubborn to admit they were wrong.

The excuse for Randolph not getting the 4th star was just terrible. At the point when everyone realized he deserved a 4*, Rivals was being stubborn at that point, protecting their reputation, and trying not the backpedal.

Henderson won linebacker or defensive MVP at some football camp in GA this summer. He started getting some attention after that and then, shortly thereafter, committed to TN.

On the video where he was presented with MVP honors, I'm fairly certain the commentator listed his size as 6'1" and 191 pounds. Henderson seemed to concur with this on the video. Those were his measurables at the camp. TIFWIW

I don't see how he's going to hold up playing linebacker in the SEC. He may be a career special teamer.
