'12 GA RB Imani Cross (Nebraska Commit)

It's always good to have a big every down power RB like Cross on our roster. Sanders Jr is a great talent but he's not coming here. It looks like the staff wants a power back and a speed back to compliment each other for this class. If we can pull Cross and Kimbrow I will be thrilled.

I respect what you are saying. I'm holding my breath for a few of the other guys. We should be able to recruit with the best for the best. IMO

I did watch the JR video. Like I said in earlier post; in most years I would be banging the drum to sign this guy. Numbers and need keep me from being excited about getting him on the board so early and I believe we have backs with similar skill-sets. If we accept his commitment before spring, I'm not sure its a positive move. You guys are more "one in hand" and I'm "two in bush". (no anything)

I get the thing about accepting a commit from these kids early..but I also know alot of people wanted us to send a couple DL guys packing last year to make room for all these GW, and LD, and whatnot. As it turned out...holding out for the big fish is not always in a teams best interest. If CDD feels this kid can tote the ball in the SEC, make plays, and has the proper character....I say don't wait. I do think when 1 RB chooses to be a VOL...you may see #2 announce sooner rather than later with only 1 more spot left. I do think we only take 2 in this class. While I know everyone wants Kimbrow..the only issue I see with him is Yes...4.3 at 160 is great...but 4.4 at 215 is better IMO. Go Vols!

Kimbrow will be highly ranked in this class. I understand that you like a few of those elite RB's in this class but if you expect us to land them you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. It's early in the process but it just isn't likely that we can pull someone like Sanders Jr. I think the staff has Kimbrow targeted as one of their top prospects on the board anyway.

Which is why I favor Mathis if we are looking to sign an instate kid. Cross and Mathis to me are similar backs. I may be missing on that point but Mathis is going to be on a lot of watch list before the end of this coming season IMO. He has already been recognized nationally by MAXPREPS and I believe that is the beginning for the kid.

I just want the best. Any staff at Tennessee should be able to pull in top 10 talent at RB. Granted sometimes you get Cedric Houston instead of Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown but they should be able to pull it off. On a side note talk about being greedy. PF had something like 7 of the top 10 RB to commit that year. the best two changed and went to the Barners. Sucked!!

I understand what you're saying. I want to get the best players we can possibly get too. But at the same time you gotta just be realistic and the coaches can't spend the majority of their time recruiting players that they know aren't going to heavily consider us. And like I said, Kimbrow will be highly ranked so it's not like we can't get an elite RB in this class. It's extremely early in the process and there will be many more names at the position to pop up.

SIAP but new article on TOS about Cross. He says he expects to commit to UT on his visit this weekend. Says he wants to wait til then because he's bringing his mom so she can share this with him.

I watched his film today after reading he may commit this weekend to tell you the truth I was surprised at his speed looks to be much quicker that I thought and I agree with the Tom Smith comparison.

I don't know why everyone wants him LB. We need a big physical back like this to push the pile on 3rd and 2. Just line it up and smash their teeth in with Lane, Smith, Neal, or Cross. Yeah that sounds good to me.

I like that he wants to commit Early and it can help us in the long run especially if he can recruit like Pat Martin. It would work out nicely if we could gets some early recruits to work the summer camps for us.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the site and have been catching up on some reading here. I know it may be a stupid question, but i've seen it several places. What does TOS stand for?

Go Vols!

Maybe the mods should add a sticky thread explaining commonly used acronyms. Forget Urban Dictionary, we need VolNation Dictionary.

I never called him a RB. Just said that everyone had the same expectations about his speed. He was irrelevant at WR so he could just as well had QB behind his name.

No, you didn't. But you did compare him to a RB, so there was an implication. Sad to say, I also remember him as irrelevant in football games, despite his great speed on the track.

I'm not saying he will have the same career by no means but his running style reminds me of Eddie George. Who knows?!?!?

I think he's very good in the screen game too. Can you imagine a two back shotgun set with: Cross and Lane at RB, Hunter, Rogers, and whoever at the slot. The threat of the screen and the down field threats would put a lot of stress on a defense. Because Cross can be a legit blocking force in the run game at times.
