'12 JUCO PG Fabyon Harris

For those of you with twitter or that are going to make one...

Fabyon Harris is on twitter and is one of many recruits who loves the shoutouts. Right now Texas A&M fans are showing him a lot of love. Not that it always is a difference maker but I figured id give his account, any love from volnation is a big bonus IMO.

If anyone smarter than I can come up with a phrase or whatever it is that we can all tweet and get trending for Fabyon would also be cool.

Anyways here's his handle...

Not that numbers tell the whole truth, but I thought I'd shed some light on the Fabyon situation. I'm gonna post his numbers along with Chris Jones who many know and wish we had, and Pierre Jackson the juco pg for Baylor that preceded Fabyon Harris at CSI.

Not bad. I'd like him to have a better apg.

That's my biggest ?

From what I've heard he is forced to be the man on his team and provide their scoring. He'd prefer not to shoot as much and be more of a distributor. I think he probably forces things and that could be a result of his a:to. Unfortunately, nothing to really go off besides what he's done in juco.

This was from senior year in HS...
A 5-foot-9, 160-pound point guard, Harris joins the Cougar program out of Chicago's Hyde Park Academy. As a senior, he averaged 26.0 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals per game on the way to being named an ESPNChicago.com All-Area selection.

"Fabyon is a very good ball-handler with quickness, speed and athleticism. He is a winner who defends and plays hard with toughness," Dickey said. "He gets his teammates involved and can also score. We are excited about Fabyon being a Cougar."

Harris is described by some recruiting services as a "scorer", "playmaker", "outstanding defender" and "leader".

If he can play defense and handle/distribute the ball well, the rest is just icing on the cake to me.

My point exactly. He's a true PG, who is also a very good defender, isnt that what many said we lacked? The great range and shot making ability are as you said icing on the cake IMO.

Other than great defender (Trae got better as the year went along), you described Trae.

1. Trae was not a great defender at the end of the year
2. Trae is not a true PG as compared to Fabyon
3. The 3 pt shot of Fabyon is much better and of greater range than that of Trae.

Point remains wouldn't you like another "trae"(with better ball handling and defense) on the team???

How is Faybon a true PG? Reading and watching, seems like he is a scoring first PG.

I'm assuming you probably are reading from his juco this year and watching that as well. As i stated a few posts ago, he forced to be the man on his team and is forced to shoot and try and score more than he'd like.

Would you consider d rose a true pg? I would, but because he scores a lot you wouldn't? Fabyon has been a PG for 6+ years, if you don't think he's more of a true PG than trae then I don't know what to say. Pierre jackson, Chris jones, Ervin walker...all guys Fabyon is compared to and all guys that are more of a true pg than trae. Something all 4 of those guys can do that trae couldn't...penetrate and work a zone. Also, the fact he is considered an elite defender at his position can't be stressed enough. We all know how much ccm preaches and values defense.

Here's his high school write up..."Fabyon is a very good ball-handler with quickness, speed and athleticism. He is a winner who defends and plays hard with toughness," Dickey said. "He gets his teammates involved and can also score. We are excited about Fabyon being a Cougar."

Could be some good news...a guy A&M offered awhile back, but was committed to Mizzou has committed to A&M. He's a 3* PG and that now makes a 4* pg 3* pg and 4* SG they have signed.

Could cool them off a bit on Fabyon.

I'd just like a guy who is fast enough and has a good enough handle to dribble through and past pressure. That would help this team a lot.

I'm excited about this recruit. We obviously need another point guard to go with Trae. I was really impressed with Trae this year from an offensive standpoint. Most people knock him and say we need a "true" pg. He ran the offrnse well, distributed the ball well , and was absolute clutch at the end of the game at the FT line. My only criticism of him this year was he didn't do a good job defensively on the other teams pg. Trae moves his feet very slowly and when the other team has a quick player then Trae is exploited and we have no answer. This is were I see Fabyon being the biggest asset. This gives us an answer.

Don't want to bust your bubble but, they graduate 3 guards this season.
Only return one guard with any scoring production.
One of the graduates is the PG.

Ok so 3 guards graduate, including 1 PG.

They've now signed 3 highly rated guards, 2 of the signees are PGs.

I don't see how this isn't somewhat of good news.

And what 3 scholarship guards are graduating? I count one.

Might be better to look at what they're returning.
4 guards, one Elston Turner who accounts for 13.8 of their 21 total ppg. Scholly or not they need more scoring from their guards.
Fabyon would start, whereas here, he's a back up or at least expected to earn his position.

I get they're not returning much from their guards, but they're losing 1guard their PG. I'm guessing both 4*'s they have signed, 1 a PG and the other a SG, are expecting to start as well.

I don't know that he's as much a priority now as he may have been before for them. As I said returning their SG and adding a 4* PG&SG as well as 3* PG. they've already greatly improved their guard situation.

Not saying they don't want Fabyon, but I do see it as a possible positive for us. Think about it they return an upperclassmen solid SG who has the 2 spot locked down. So Fabyon would be competing with 2 4* and a 3* for PT. at Tennessee if he was to be starting he'd be competing with 2* and 3*(mcbee&richardson). My point is yes last year A&M was very weak at guard, however they've already addressed it and upgraded nicely, and also have 2 PG coming in that are expecting PT.

IMO I almost see the road to starting and more minutes as being clearer at Tennessee than at A&M.
