I like Patterson, but since now he is now NOT an EE, he is much less appealing.

Agreed. Especially considering we're pretty stacked at the position.

I'm by no means saying I don't want CP. I know people will read this post and say, "Oh, since he's not coming here he's not that good."

That is not true, in any way. We're just in a good position with our WR depth and can afford to miss this one.

I agree +10000. Don't get me wrong, I'd love him to be a Vol, but if he's not, it's not the end of the world. He's a sure talent, but in a position we aren't dying at.

t does put a new spin on things, especially with gaining a pig today

I don't know if getting Pig has any bearing on CP to be honest. Pig is a speed guy who looks to be more versatile. CP is a legit WR that could line up on the outside and stretch the field. I'm no coach or insider, but they appear to fit different roles. At least in UT's offense.

FWIW, OCI just posted this in another thread:

It truly is the silly season. The commitment of Pig, Patterson not being an EE, Patterson's potential grade issues, and the emergence of impact prospects seriously considering UT have completely changed the staff's view on Patterson. Patterson is going to have to make a decision because the staff is not holding a spot open for him until NSD. Today is the first I've heard this, but it is what it is. Every commit from here on out will be a phenomenal talent. Expect a few surprises.

Not if some who have been mentioned leave, JH doesn't recover well, current players underperform, and current commits don't look game ready. Patterson is one that could contribute immediately at a high level, and I don't say that very often about players new to the team.

This isn't a knock on CP at all, but if we were to put a great OL commit in his place I wouldn't be mad at all.

Hunter's rehab is way ahead of schedule. Never seen anyone heal as fast as him. Truly a special physical specimen.

Still think we need CP due to other reasons, but good to hear. :good!:

I also would agree with lyls, but stud RB or DL instead.

That, and people really underestimate the advancement of modern medical procedures.

An ACL tear isn't what it was 10-20 years ago..

I want CP on this team next year, EE or not. It doesn't impact his position as much as the lines or a freshman. IF you want 'instant' impact.. CP is going to bring it.

I hope we are still on him, but if he slacked off in his grades, then that might be a red flag that he won't last long here. I'd love to see a 4 wide set with Hunter, Rodgers, Croom and CP next year. Don't think FL, UGA, or Bama could handle that. But if he has academic issues, it might be better in the long run if we fill that spot at another position of need.

Trust me, from recent experience it is still a serious injury. Hunter is just a beast.

I know it's still serious, but not like it was.

Also, you've got to factor in all the rehab things UT can afford, that maybe the average person couldn't.

Expecting Hunter to not have some type of drop off next year just isn't realistic. He's a freak and a great player, but rehabbing away from football for 8 months is going to have an effect.

Is Patterson still making his decision next week or what? I know the original plan was he would announce his decision after the UGA visit this weekend. If he doesn't make a decision soon then we will replace him with Fuller or Davis. I want Patterson just as much as the next guy, and ive called him a Vol from the start of his recruitment to Tennessee, but things certainly seem to be changing. And we dont have the time or room in this class to wait around on him and risk losing out on even more elite prospects. Hope he turns it around soon and becomes apart of the Vol family.
