I doubt it. The WR depth needs to be bolstered. I see us taking 2 at least maybe 3 if it's the right 3. Patterson is a two year guy so you really need to recruit behind him.

I think we'll take 2 high school WRs in this class no matter what (at this point, it's looking like Drae Bowles and Corey Smith could be those 2).
Then, if we can add Patterson on top of them, even better. Patterson will come in at the same year as Rogers, Hunter, and Milton - so getting him does nothing to address needs in the class behind Arnett and Dallas.

MH do you agree that we should feel good about our chances at landing Smith, Bowles and Patterson???

I think so.

Definitely Bowles. It sounds pretty good right now on Patterson. I absolutely have no clue on Smith. I'm surprised he's announcing so soon. If his final 5 really is his final 5 I guess I'll say its Michigan State or Tennessee. Just not sure who he'll pick.

hmm, so MSU is that big of a factor. I was thinking Illinois was the biggest competion. He has me confused.

From a guy that knows Patterson personally, said he does like Tennessee alot but is worried about PT w/ Hunter & Rogers only being Sophomores & being starters.

This may indeed be a deterrent... but oh the joys of having people concerned with the depth chart at Tennessee again... (though we all know we don't have anything proven after Hunter and to an extent, Rogers)

3 and 4 WR sets. Problem solved!

Maybe he missed the spring game when our WR's were showing out. From watching that, he should sense there is playing time available to a player who makes plays.

I don't understand that concern at all...WR is a position where more than 2 guys can get a lot of playing time.

It's his concern though. We have a very good recruiter (a couple actually) on the task and Patterson is "Big on the Vols" according to the same source that claimed he was worried about the depth chart. I have a feeling he will see things for what they are.

Someone should tell him that those sophomores will be juniors by the time he gets to Knoxville and if they were so good, as to keep him off the field, they won't be around for their senior year anyway. Plus, I'm sure we'll run plenty of 3/4 WR sets if we have the WR's to make it happen. JMO

If Corey Smith is going JUCO, wouldn't that be recruiting behind him?

Former Northwestern High WR Cordarrelle Patterson (6-4 205) will play his second season at Hutchinson JC, KS this season and then move on to a Division One program. USC is a possibility. The Gamecocks have not offered but they are showing interest. "Coach Spurrier Jr. has called me twice," Patterson said. "He was just checking on me and how I'm doing. He wants me to visit when I'm back home in July." Patterson has offers from Tennessee, Georgia, Minnesota, Texas Tech, Baylor, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Missouri, Oklahoma State and Arkansas. Patterson said location for him is not a big deal but "my family wants me back home." He doesn't have any favorites and will take official visits this fall and then decide. He's on track to graduate in December and will have three years to play two at the next level. Last season Patterson had 52 catches for 952 yards and 12 touchdowns.
