I actually thought he looked better than many were saying. You have to defer to guys who have seen whole games though.

A 4.6 electronically timed 40 on grass? That is good speed and a more relevant measure than on a track or turf.

The kid may run a 4.5 on concrete and with no pads on i ran a 4.5 without pads in college when we put on the pads it dropped to 4.63. So it makes a difference i see a good 4th down back and short yardage but not a every down back right now will have to get footwork and speed that all comes with time and hard work until then he is a special teams and goal line short yardage back. We will let the coaches decide they will anyway so we will have to wait till spring to see what he can do

So what you're saying is....it's a process? :p

Him being an EE will help tons IMO.

Just Being an EE is overrated.
Freshman who are special enough to play early, would have gotten in the line up regardless.

It helps with playbook and the transition in the fall but its does not add up to a huge transformation from avg to freshman starter.

I agree. It gives them a jump on some things but the more talented player will pass them up and rather quickly at that. See Cam Clear / Brendan Downs this year.

I've been with the program "coaching" 3 years....don't recall Elder recently, Don't yall play Alter every year, they're our backyard rivals....great program and coaching.

You work for ONN?

I know we played Fairmont on the frosh level at some point but it could have been 4-5 years ago.

We dont play Alter anymore since they split the GCL divisions into North, Central and South. I wish we continued to play Alter but haven't in a number of years now. They do have a great program and excellent coaches.

And yes I have done some work for them in the past.

The more I learn about this kid the more excited I get. I am starting to think this is one of the most important recruits of this class. Big RB that could have some sick high school stats if the coaches would have leaned on him. He will be here early and has legs like Travis Henry, but is about 6 inches taller.

Hill has been clocked at a 10.9 100m during track, he consistently runs in the 4.6's & his fastest 40 was a 4.55. He will graduate w/ a 3.7 GPA & a school record 4,192 rushing yards & 72 TD's while also sharing the backfield w/ another D1 BCS RB. - per Scout

Impressive

It used to be for sure. But Canton area football has fallen off dramatically in recent years. They'll still typically put teams into the state semi's because they are in the weakest region in the state (Combined with Toledo schools). But Canton McKinley's program has really fallen off as has Massillon's. Glen Oak and Hoover will have a solid team from time to time but they all struggle to compete with the teams from the other regions.

I lived in eastern Ohio for 25 years. Do you know anything about Steubenville Big Red? I know they played Massillon and McKinley back in the day. TIA

What part of East Ohio? I lived in St Clairsville for 10+ years....

Yes Steubenville has a great program. Zach Collaros, the QB at Cincinnati right now played for them in high school. Talk about one of the most underated QB's to come out of this state. He was a special player for them and I think only lost 1 game in his entire career as a starter for them. I admit, I thought his lack of height would be a hinderance for him on the college level but he's put together a great career at UC as well.

Maybe he is part of the upgrade we need at RB. We had a lot of hope for Lane and he may yet live up to expectations with Watson, the little speed back and Smith.

I think we'll see a drastic improvement in our run game this year with the addition of CJG. The backs we have and the ones that are coming in aren't terrible backs and I really think CJG will improve our run game that much.

There are things about speed that are easier to change than other things. If he runs a sub-11 100m but a 4.6 forty then he either doesn't know how to start a sprint or needs a S&C program designed specifically to improve his explosiveness. Those times suggest he already has good top end speed.

I think another year of maturity, experience, and strength with a focus on run blocking across our offensive line will do wonders as well.

With CJG, I hope to see us have a back that averages 100 a game. Would be nice. Although, we have Lane/Smith/Watson/Hill, which maybe Watson gets a RS?

Also Young and maybe Neal if he shifts back. We should probably include Toney on the list too since he got a decent bit of PT later in the season.

10.9 100m at his size is pretty impressive...
