Any recent news in our standing with him. I go to his school but haven't had a chance to talk to him.

Tonight he played against southwest dekalb who has Shaq Goodwin. Same height and size, owned him on the boards and basically played at his level the entire game. His rebounding is great and his hook shot is very reliable.

His only issues are ft (airballed one 5 ft to the left), panicking when doubled in the post, and there are times when he drives to the rim and loses where his is. As a result, he will miss the backboard and airball a layup

I haven't read anything in two months or so. At that point we were in his top group.

Last bit of news I could find on him was from October 21st about a visit to Seton Hall.

Anybody got anything on Mitchell.

Didn't sign in the fall. Maryland allegedly recruiting him hardest right now and Georgia is making a move on him after failing on Robert Carter, Shaq Goodwin and (probably) Tony Parker.

Tennessee's never been able (or maybe tried?) to get him in for an official visit. That may be related to testing, as I believe you have to take the ACT or SAT before taking official visits.

This kid hasn't taken the ACT yet? Red flag

from the fact that he hasn't taken any official visits yet.

Terrible guidance that the kid has gotten by not taking the test yet. Shame on the HS coaches, HS staff, family, and anybody else that cares about the kid. Hope it doesn't spell non qualifier

Golden is a sophomore..?

Yes he is, but it should also be a concern that a SG is our future at PG. We need a true, bonafide, high-level PG. I hate to say it, but Aaron Craft would be a God-send for this team.

Agree completely. I wanted to hate him but Craft is very solid. I enjoy watching him play.

It makes me sick to say it, but I love the kid on the court. He is so smooth and effortless. Makes great decisions, places great defense, good shooter. There is not a glaring flaw in his game.

Stokes said on the Sports Animal today that after he committed Mitchell called him and said he wanted to be a Vol, too. That may mean nothing in the long haul, but might be reason for optimism. Hoping Stokes will be the catalyst for getting more top players.

Would love to add Mitchell's athleticism to the frontline for next year.

Mitchell may not be the best of the crop, but he does have a desire to improve. Mitchell brings a diverse group of scoring options in the lane and for the most part, understands that he's a post player who will make his mark in the lane. When doubled he is a good passer out of the post who has a feel when and where the double team is coming. When fresh, Mitchell plays with an energetic motor that creates opportunities for both himself and his teammates.

Weaknesses: Mitchell has always seemed to struggle with conditioning. Evaluating him both with his high school team and AAU team Mitchell seems to wear down quickly and at times struggles to keep up with the pace of the game. He needs to be able to use every post move he has and have a better understanding of angles in the post to compensate for his lack of lift off the floor. Many times he is non-existent on the glass because he struggles to get to balls out of his area. With better conditioning and stamina those are balls he could get to or get a hand on late in games.

Bottom Line:
He has a charasmatic personality and seems like he would be a great teammate. Regardless of his lack of athleticism or bounce off the floor he has shown he can score the ball in the post against good competition. Mitchell will be successful as long as he goes to a school that plays a style allows him to play to his strengths.

Who would be willing to give up their scholarship so we can get him?

Are we at 13 now?

Golden
Washpun
McBee
McRae
Reese
Edwards
Stokes
Maymon
Hall
Yemi
Richardson
Chevious
Miller

Guess we are.

Not sure. We are also looking at Nino Jackson...I'm sure we will find a way. I could see Yemi transferring (though I like his potential).

Also, if push came to shove, I bet McBee would be willing to give up his scholarship and go to school for free through financial aid.
