'12 PF Charles Mitchell (MD commit)

Mitchell reminds me of Maymon.

I somewhat agree except Maymon is more athletic and has better handles. Mitchell plays like a true post player, hardly ever playing out on the perimeter. He tends to lose where he is on the court and will trough up some terrible looking layups that miss the rim completely. He also has a tendency to move without dribbling but this can all be fixed with college coaching. I've seen him play all four years and his progression has been outstanding.

And I agree with ESPN about his rebounding. Some nights he will have double digits and others he will have 2. With some of the competition we play, his size should give him around 10 each game.

Still feel that way about Yemi?
Are we at 13 now?

Golden
Washpun
McBee
McRae
Reese
Edwards
Stokes
Maymon
Hall
Yemi
Richardson
Chevious
Miller

Guess we are.

Not sure. We are also looking at Nino Jackson...I'm sure we will find a way. I could see Yemi transferring (though I like his potential).

With this teams recent inconsistant issues, I really wouldn't be shocked to see Yemi riding the pine after having a career game. Not a crack on Martin but didn't Miller have a pretty decent game and then was in the doghouse all of a sudden? Maybe I missed something on that but it's more than likely Martin flirting with different rotations before SEC play starts.

I'm not sure why Yemi would consider transferring outside of just being generally unhappy, which I have no reason to believe. He will likely challenge for serious minutes next season after he has an offseason in a major weight training program and improves his footwork.

I'm all for that. I just like digging at Zj.

Jackass :)

By the way, I'm not saying I want Yemi to leave. Just saying that he could be a guy that gets pushed out for a lot of reasons. He plays like he did against Citadel and he won't be.

Charles Mitchell still has UT in top 5, along with Georgia, Florida State, Maryland and Cincy. CCM has to make room if Mitchell decides he wants to play for the Vols.

If Mitchell tells Martin he wants to be here a spot will be made. Im with most that think miller will be gone next year and that would be the scholarship we need right there.

Any news here? Can we get his rivals profile in the OP?

Here's the profile if OP or mod will fix...

Strengths:
Mitchell may not be the best of the crop, but he does have a desire to improve. Mitchell brings a diverse group of scoring options in the lane and for the most part, understands that he's a post player who will make his mark in the lane. When doubled he is a good passer out of the post who has a feel when and where the double team is coming. When fresh, Mitchell plays with an energetic motor that creates opportunities for both himself and his teammates.

Weaknesses: Mitchell has always seemed to struggle with conditioning. Evaluating him both with his high school team and AAU team Mitchell seems to wear down quickly and at times struggles to keep up with the pace of the game. He needs to be able to use every post move he has and have a better understanding of angles in the post to compensate for his lack of lift off the floor. Many times he is non-existent on the glass because he struggles to get to balls out of his area. With better conditioning and stamina those are balls he could get to or get a hand on late in games.

Bottom Line:
He has a charasmatic personality and seems like he would be a great teammate. Regardless of his lack of athleticism or bounce off the floor he has shown he can score the ball in the post against good competition. Mitchell will be successful as long as he goes to a school that plays a style allows him to play to his strengths.

Sounds like a sidney type , but with a good attitude.
Could probably develop into a good 5. Only downside: he averages less than 1 blk per game.

Personally, I'm not as high on Mitchell as a lot on this board are for different reasons. IMO, if you get the scholarship you hold it for 13', we are in on much better talent in the post in the 13' class IMO. Also, it's not like our post is really hurting next year, maymon stokes, hall and another year for yemi to develop. The post will be more of a new in 13' after hall and maymon both are gone, and possibly stokes to the league.

That's jmo though, if you feel you have a good shot at landing 2 out of Nichols, Kingsley, Taylor, Williams then is say keep it.

Then again on the flip side having Mitchell here for a year could be important if stokes leaves with hall and maymon the next year. We would be left with no experience in the post and would be bringing in all freshman to play the post. so having Mitchell here could be big, it's just tempting to want to hold then for '13.

I think you have to take him if he wants to come. He's a big guy. It never hurts to get talented big men.

youre right you take him if he tell you he wants to come. im just being very optimistic about the talen in the 13' class, but then again you dont want all your talent from one class, having mitchell could definitely help after maymon and hall leave, and the 13' class will be freshman.

The issue is you will have your top three big men leave after next year. It'd be nice to have Mitchell, with a year in the program, read to go.

yea thats what i said at the end of my post earlier, that is the flip side with this situation. theres a good chance hall, maymon and stokes are gone for '13, having mitchell with experience and ready to go will be good. it'd be hard to bring in 3 freshman posts and not expect to have a set back.

Sidney is a rare talent - I don't think this guy has near the potential that he does.

I agree that we need more depth in the post, but I'm not sure we need another 6'8" guy with no leaping ability. Doesn't mean he couldn't be good, but we need some one down there that can jump to open up another element of our offense that we just don't have right now.

IMO this is an upgrade to Kenny's spot, or yemi a back up post. If we can bring Nichols and kinglsey in this guy doesn't start, but he's a takented post player off the bench. As I said basically an upgrade for talent on your bench, he'd be a damn good 3rd post option. If we had foul trouble or someone needed a blow you wouldn't lose a whole lot bringing him in, and that's always nice nice to have.

Very true, but with the difference in their attitudes Mitchell could end up producing more with less in the long run.
