Again congrats to Cody for signing with his dream school, UT. I am of course very biased in this situation, but I couldn't be happier.
I know some on here have questioned this pickup because of the low stars, skin color, local player thing, but I can promise that none will be dissapointed in how hard Cody works. He has good size for an SEC safety and runs a 4.4. He has played mainly offense in HS, but he will transition to defense well. He did dominate Crane (WR, Texas) 1-on-1 at UT's camp while guarding him.
When I talked to him yesterday he said he is 99% sure he will be an EE. He said he wants to get into UT as fast as he can so he can lift and run with the team and learn all he can about playing safety. And he also will get some looks at returning kicks and punts I would say.
I am sure that some posters on VN will try and watch Cody play some games of Friday nights since he plays locally at Knox Central. I personally will be at all the games, home and away that I can since I am a Central graduate. I will miss a few Central games whenever I am on the road for my own football road trips, but I won't miss any when I'm in town.
Something people need to remember when watching Cody this Fall is that he plays for a team that isn't very good to say it nicely. Hopefully they have improved a little since last season, but the last few years Knox Central has been down. They have a completely new coaching staff this season and have switched the offense to a triple option attack. This is not only a new offense to Cody, but to the rest of the team as well so it might take a few games before their offense really gets in sync. Another thing to remember is since Cody is a star on a team that doesn't have much else, he will get singled out much of the year. Oppossing teams are going to put 8 in the box against Cody all year and I can almost guarantee that no team will kickoff or punt to Cody this year. Last year Cody burnt the other teams for 7 return TDs and that was in limited touches.
So for various reasons he might not put up as big of numbers his senior year offensively especially w/ ST touches, but hopefully he will concentrate at safety and on the defensive side of the ball this upcoming Fall. Hope to see some of VN @ Joel Helton field cheering on Cody this Fall.
