A lot of people are going to either their words on this kid.

The coaches love him.

And didn't evaluate him based on film or state talent, it was on up close and personal camps going against some of the best talent in the country - where he consistently outperformed his competition and expectations.

I hope you're right. Unlike young from last year, he doesn't have eye popping numbers to secure a lot of confidence. I would love for him to do excellent, but my mostly uninformed opinion isn't confident that he will. That's why they are the coaches, and I'm not

Camp evaluations are greater than watching film.
The staff loves him and there is no history of this staff giving out meaningless scholarships at positions of need.

I think it was the Crane kid from TX that he shut down, a white kid that we did not offer. Don't shoot the messenger. jmo

Cody has been named 5A 1st-Team All-State DB by the Tennessee Sport Writer's Association.

Congrats to Cody. Apparently Coach Hinshaw is adamant on him starting Spring Practice off at WR, but I am almost certain he ends up at DB. Cody could develop into a very successful Safety for TN.

He has decent size. Has the body frame to potentially get much stronger and bigger. Excellent speed. No matter if he is playing WR or DB.

But his position will be DB in college IMO. Last year was his first year playing Safety full-time. And he played very well. Showed flashes of an elite safety. There were a few plays were he took a bad angle and got beat, but that was from being new. He has a nose for the ball and is solid in run coverage. He will be a solid player, even if it is a solid ST player.

Hard to believe that folks here and on TOS are still ragging on this kid. He is a VFL and will arrive on campus in a week or so to play for us. Time for the haters to leave him alone and past time for all of us to get behind him and cheer him on.

There is a bit more support for him than it was DY. I personally want to see Blanc at safety. I think he's a very good prospect back there. I have no problems with this pick up. His range would be good to have back there.

I know I'm going to get the "racist, imo" reply as soon as I post this, but seriously, out of sheer curiosity, are there any white DB's starting in the SEC? Kinda got me thinking and I don't have a computer right now to look it up...

Caucasian starting defensive backs are obviously in the minority in the SEC, as well as most conferences. But there have been a handful of starting DBs in the SEC the last few years that were white.

Craig Steltz from LSU comes to mind. He was a 1st-Team All-American at LSU his senior year at safety.

There are others from other conferences too. Tom Zbikowski, Eric Weddle, Jim Leonhard.

Most caucasian DBs play safety, but it can definitely be done in the SEC. There isn't much of it, but it is there.

Good call on those names....any idea on who the last tennessee starter was?

Not a starter, but IIRC we had a guy with the last name of Wolf or Wolfe, think he transferred from Tenn Tech.

Perhaps I should remind you of Bad A$$ Billy Bates.... A UT alum and about as pasty white as they come.

(I know he's a different era, but saw this as a good opportunity to pay homage to a legend)

You are right. Tyler Wolf I believe was his name. And he never was a fulltime starter, but I believe he actually did start one game at FS his senior year because the actual starter was either injured or suspended.

Well my next drink in about 45 seconds is gonna be to Mr Bates and also to Mr Blanc hoping he follows in his footsteps! Thanks for the history lesson fellas! GBO!
