'12 TN ATH Will Redmond (MSU verbal commit)

Of course getting Redmond leads to Kimbrow.

mlsoft, you are obsessed with this anti-Kimbrow schtick much more than anyone else is pro-Kimbrow. Have you seen this kid? Have you seen his film? His offer list? There is a reason that he has big time offers from Saban, Chizik and dozens of other top schools. He has legit sub 4.4 speed and he's in our state!

People aren't on a Kimbrow kick because he's an instate guy. It's because he's an uber-talented instate guy.

Sab...

I have said all along that my feelings on Kimbrow have nothing to do with him being "overrated" or anything like that. He is a good football player. And I beg to differ with you that I am "obsessed" -- I think that a read of the posts that make him a talent above all others and a player that we cannot live without are the ones that are frothing at the mouth, not me. I am just presenting a logical case that although he is indeed talented, we do not need to use up a scholarship for him when we have more serious needs at other, more important, positions.

And yes, I have watched his films and examined his offer list closely -- have you?? There are an awful lot of big names absent from his list including Florida, Florida State and LSU just here in the South.

UF recruits the east coast almost exclusively, under Meyer at least. They barely ventured into AL let alone TN, however that is changing under Muschamp due to his connections.

And you do "waste" a scholarship on a kid like Kimbrow for 2 obvious reasons: you can always use fast, playmakers and does not look good if you're not willing to take/recruit kids within your borders, especially since we're trying to repair relationships.

With the way it appears the local kids are shunning CDD and staff...I am not sure they(the coaches) should care about repairing relationships.

As long as we get 5* VFLs, I don't care where they come from.

I agree with the I don't care where they are from. As far as I am concerned they don't have to be 5 star players either. Give me (3) 5 stars, (14) 4 stars, and (5) solid 3 star projects(plus the 2 we have) and I am good to go. Hell...I am not greedy. :peace2:

I will gladly take that.

Not at all. I just don't think that kissing up to a bunch of local hs coaches who are trying to push their kids to anywhere but UT is a priority. Am I going to lose any sleep over a few local kids who are SEC projects at best?? Nope. Sorry if I am not a fellow homer...I am a VOL fan and want the best for UT.

So your saying Redmond and Kimbrow are SEC projects at best?? Sounds like talking out your a** to me. I am also a Vol fan, and have been my entire life, and if you dont want the speed of these two players and dont believe the coaches should convince/talk to their coaches to try to get them to come to UT then you obviously do not want the best for UT.

If we lose them we lose them but criticizing a player's talent before he even steps foot onto a D1 campus is pathetic.

If we were recruiting for the track team I would see your point. It has been discussed many times on here how the Memphis HS coaches try and push their kids to any place BUT UT. Do I think CDD is the type of guy to worry about kissing up to couple east Mississippi coaches to get a kid or 2?? Not so much. I understand the Memphis homers drool at the idea of UT begging for the couple kids a year who could play in the SEC(If they qualify). Maybe it makes the coaches over there feel good to get that UT offer for the kid as they try and push them to Ole Miss or Memphis.

This is very rare and extremely overblown! It simply just isnt happening.

Our track record in the East Mississippi area would show otherwise. The only other explanation is that UT coaches feel the dump is not worth recruiting. While I could understand that....I think they are willing to get a tetanus shot and at least try and recruit the area. We should all hope for the best.

Now you got it! The track record is indicative of Fulmer and lack of effort. Im around these kids and parents all the time and they dont hate UT. Fulmer dumped on memphis while not recruiting it. He didnt need memphis but dumping on them was unnecessary. However it is still overblown, it wont take much to lock up memphis especially with Baggett and DD doing the recruiting.

It's ridiculous to think that Memphis coaches push kids away from UT. I know a poster on here with ties to many Memphis coaches who would vehemently disagree with that.

Redmond isn't sure where he is going yet but he will be at camp at UT.

Of course they will disagree with it. As stated, they love having UT come and sweet talk them as they try and recruit the area. I would guess they would deny the large amount of "handlers" over there as well. It's understandable.

Neither Kimbrow nor Redmond are projects. Who said their coaches were pushing them away from UT? That goes for just about any Memphis kid as well. UT isn't offering many projects. We can't really afford to.

There is nothing "homerish" about arguing for these two guys. Their offer lists speak for themselves.

Talking out of your ass. Case and point.

Ok, they are not projects. UT just passed on them. Fair enough.

Lol. Who said we passed on them? I'd love for you to provide some proof to that assumption.

LWS seems to think they aren't as high of a priority as some and Kimbrow seemed to be uninterested at camp...

He brings good info, but I'll wait and see if what he said is true. We stopped recruiting b/c he had a bad attitude at camp? I doubt it since he was so high on UT at one point not too long ago. But then again, it could happen.

I think the part where he was claiming it didn't matter if he was the #1 recruit in TN is total BS, however.

There were a few when O was recruiting Memphis for UT.

Now, there are none that really come to mind. I am sure it happens from time to time because it happens around the country to some degree, but its not that big of a deal around Memphis.

Now, if we are talking basketball, its a whole new ballgame.

After attending the Al Golden Camp June 18th at the University of Miami, East Memphis standout defensive back, Will Redmond is waiting for another addition to a list of nearly 20 offers. "I think they were definitely impressed with what they saw from me." said Redmond. "I think they'll offer after they have their coaches meetings." He managed three picks and five pass breakups in one-on-ones before aggravating a groin that has been bothering him. "I didn't hurt it that day, it's been giving me problems" he said. "Now that all the camps are over my coaches have me off of it for three weeks." Will has already been to Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Memphis, Miami, North Carolina and Tennessee for camps. Other visits in the works are Notre Dame on the 23rd, Clemson, Virgina and back to Mississippi State for their Big Dawg camp July 22. Because he's already camped there, he plans to just hang out this time around. There's not much Redmond hasn't done on the football field. He saw action in all three phases of the game for the Manasses High School Tigers in 2010. Starting at quarterback and serving as their leading rusher on offense as well strong safety on defense and also punt returner, kick returner and even punter on special teams, this guy barely got a water break. Will's passing numbers weren't eye popping, throwing 123 times with 46 completions for 866 yards but he ran the ball 126 times for 1862 yards averaging 14.78 yards per carry and 186.2 yards per game. Even with rushing stats like that most of the schools that have offered Will are recruiting him for the defensive side of the ball. "I've played mostly strong saftey but most everybody is recruiting me at cornerback" said the speedster. When asked about his 40 times he said he's been running "about a 4.38, 4.39 was my last official." Standing 6'0" and 179 lbs he's the perfect size for a Division 1 cornerback. Staying close to home is not a factor in his decision making though. "North Carolina is probably one of the closer schools at the top of my list right now and it's about a 10 hour drive but drive time is not really a factor." As for the schools at the top right now? "I guess Mississippi State, UNC, Tennessee and probably Clemson."
