12 TN RB I'tavius Mathers

UT didn't let it go. He had no interest in UT at all. Made it very clear.

Why waste time when it can be spent on other recruits.

I am sure there are some of you out there that would complain if we were still recruiting him because we should be after guys that actually have interest in Tennessee.

Maybe I worded that incorrectly. Very disappointed he is not a vol. Better? I think the kid is a great RB and we don't have one. Is something wrong with that? SBV you are a good poster, don't start jumping down the throats of others please.

Disappointed that we let this one go.

It's not that "we let this one go". It's that "he never was interested in us and couldn't get his attention for nuthin'."

They'd love to get this guy, and are still trying to get this guy. He's just not shown any interest in Tennessee.

...and I see somebody else beat me to the punch.

In an interesting development, Darin Hinshaw was in the midstate area to see four-star running back I'Tavius Mathers. Mathers wasn't answering his phone Monday night so it's hard to know what he thought about the visit and if he will entertain Tennessee moving forward. After Tennessee left Mathers, Arkansas came in to see the running back who's looking around after the staff he committed to at Ole Miss got fired.

- Fortenberry.

This guy just doesn't want to play for UT. Period.

We already have seen. He's not going to be a Vol. Period.

Yet...why the heck was he talking to a Tennessee coach?

People change their mind. I think this kid had his mind made up to be part of the rebuilding at Ole Miss, and got the chair kicked out from under him. Now he's at least being reasonable and listening to the pitch. Not saying he's All Vol, but after months of not getting the time of day we're in this kid's grill again.

It's still too early to write this one off.

I have heard here in Murfreesboro that the biggest problem with Mathers is that Philip Shadowens has a problem with UT over Rod Wilks being moved around and not playing much.

Could it help at all that Wilks played a much bigger role at the end of this season?

He played with turf toe the rest of the season after the Riverdale regular season game. I watch both of Blackman's playoff games, and the staff was re-taping his foot after every offensive series. Riverdale jumped ahead early and Blackman started passing the ball more taking him out of the game in their playoff game.

This staff just has to get a RB who can really play. What we have and what they have recruited just isn't good enough. This guy will be big time, much better than his recruiting ranking.

Really wish this thread would die, kid has ZERO interest in Tennessee. Tennessee has tried all summer & fall but the kid wants nothing to do w/ us.

Anythings possible but I agree with jmoore, he hasnt shown much interest. I think the guidance of his coach led him in other directions and I dont think UT was ever really on his radar. I will say this though, the high school talent in Murfreesboro and Rutherford county is improving and Dooley should (if he's not already)try to mend any issues with high school coach's in this area. I would think that he would want a good relationship with guys like Philip Shadowens and Ron Aydelott.

jmoore why to you think Tennessee continues to put forth effort with him?

Not Jmoore. I'd say it's because this is a position of need and this guy is an in-state recruit that fits EXACTLY what UT is looking for. Rare blend of size and speed. It wouldn't be wise to leave anything "on the field" in pursuing him.
