12 TN RB I'tavius Mathers

What pisses me off is people act as if this guy is Herschel Walker in this thread. He's an average back.
You can say that for a lot of RB threads. I really don't see as much hype and praise as you claim ITT when compared to some other guys. I wouldn't really say he's elite either too. I'd take Davis and some other guys over him, but if we had a shot at him over the two current guys, I'd be very happy.

Mathers is solid, but he's no big time back by no means. However, I still think he could do good things at Tennessee if he gave us a chance. There's definitely better backs out there than him for sure though.

The thing I'm wondering a little about him is that his junior year was a lot better than his senior. I would still take him in a New York minute. But he ain't interested so let's just forget about him. Lots of fish in the sea gentlemen. Hopefully, Davis will come our way.

Check early on in this thread. Guys were saying he was going to be a star. He can return kicks, he's blazing fast, and all types of shenanigans. It was ridiculous. I called him average back then and was crucified for it. Lol

This thread is alot like DY's tread last year in that some side of the fence will eat crow. I saw him play in person when he was healthy and he made a REALLY GOOD defense look very slow. I will go with the side that says he will be a real good college RB when he is a Jr/Sr. He is not a Crowell/Lattimore type RB, but an above average SEC back...I think so.

I wish he would give us a look, but to each their own.

Here's my opinion on Mathers:

IF he had wanted to be a Vol, I say sign him up. When you have instate talent that has the pride to play at UT, I believe they have something in them to play above what the experts think. We have several examples over the years to prove this.

But here's the thing: He hates the Vols. Therefore, I don't want him here. Read this thread early on and you see that I like his talent and want him here, but I'm not going to ask the staff to get on their knees and beg anyone to be a Vol. Let him go somewhere else, and lets all pray we get a shot at him in Neyland.

End Thread (Again).

Per Twitter, about Mathers. Posted today.

Hope the guy comes to UT, but if he does not, then I hope the school he attends has an excellent job placement program. It seems as though he cares nothing for the hometown school until of late ( if tweets mean anything). That's fine. I know that ut thrives off of out of state recruits (we have no choice), but if this cocky guy wants to go to Ole Miss? Ole Miss? Ole Miss (once more for effect), then I hope he is at the top of his class in Sociology or African Studies class. If not, it sure will be hard to get a job here after his cocky a$$ comes back. The average NFL rb career is less than 5 years, and they don't all make elite dollars.
I have no problem with those that are making a decision for their best interest. I just feel that this young man should not dismiss the fact that we are a traditional power (certainly better than Ole Miss), and we will be back. Go Vols!

1st he does not hate UT. Talked to him and his trainer yesterday. He strictly said it has nothing to do with UT he simply doesn't want to stay in the state of Tennessee. Also stated that he was more impressed with Franklin 's style of recruitingand approach over lots of schools but he doesn't want to be in state. Last he said that Pillow is his family friend, and he is considering talking to or hearing what Jay Graham has to say but he was totally uninterested in Coach Hinshaw a few wks ago.

Fair enough. Hopefully Coach Jay knows the words that he wants to hear. If not, I wish him all the best. Thanks for the update! :hi:

Solid post.

Here is what I would say to I-train…

He was 12 years old when the Indy Colts defeated the Chicago Bears to win the Super Bowl. That team featured a highly explosive offense that utilized the same sprint-draw type system that the Vols are currently using. In 2012, the Vols are going to roll out their Multiple Scorgasms attack that is a copy of the Colts system. Tyler Bray is Peyton Manning. Justin Hunter is Marvin Harrison. Da’Rick Rogers is Reggie Wayne. Mychal Rivera is Dwight Clark. The only piece we lack is who is going to be Edgerrin James. The I-train can be that man from day # 1. It is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity.
