Our safeties are horrible. Brewer is excruciatingly slow and McNeil is a freshman who has been taking horrible angles.

moore sucked it up out there. even on the pick six if the ball wasnt' tipped he was beat. he missed way to many tackles.

I just hope they offense is that good and our defense isn't that bad. lol but we played hard through out the game so i am not as disappointed but im not happy either. Idk how i feel :cray:

Mcneil has been taking horrible angles? what?

I honestly dont know what some of you guys are watching or talking about half of the time.

Ive watched the game twice now and I didnt see a single bad angle so Im going to assume you are talking about this play :

that is not a bad angle. and he surely didnt take (multiple) bad angles in the game

he had to make a desperation dive at a RB who had cutback on a free run 20 yards down the field right up the middle.

btw, pre - play, he rotated down to deep middle Before the play to disguise coverage and he was at a distinct disadvantage in space

Don't explain nothing to that guy......... McNeil looks good early on at safety.

I thought that he played pretty good too, considering that he is a true freshman playing his first significant snaps on the road against the #5 team in the country. He will only get better. The bye week comes at a good time for us to make some changes in defensive personnel. Leave Brewer on the sidelines, except for coming in as the nickel backer or some type of role like that. The other thing that I would love to see is Bonner getting some time at cornerback. He may not know all the schemes, but how hard is it to say that your job is play man to man on this receiver. JH and DR nicknamed him glue for a reason. After yesterday's game it is pretty obvious that I don't believe that we could give up anymore big plays with some of these young athletes on the field versus what we are playing. Obviously, experience isn't helping. We need some guys that will play fast and has some recovery speed and are PHYSICAL...am tired of seeing us jump on someone's back and ride them down or dive at their ankles. That's what I loved about McNeil...he came up and hit Gurley. Deliver the hit...don't wait and take the hit. Proud of our guys' resiliency! We finally played a big game all 4 quarters and overcame A LOT of adversity in a hostile environment with a chance to win the game late. Can't ask for much more from our guys, except for the next time that we are in this position to pull out the win. We grew up yesterday, even with a horrible defensive performance. GO VOLS!!!

After the bye week, what are your thoughts on starting safeties? I was actually ok with PWag and Coleman at CB and Gordon at Star. I'd like to see Bonner worked into the mix but don't know a glaring need to start him yet. However, safety play was the epitome of atrocious.

I have been wanting to see Bonner get on the field. I was hoping he would get some PT against Akron. This kid needs to get some first team snaps this week and next. Dooley said there maybe some changes made I hope he gives these new kids a shot.
