On TN Coaches Visit to his Home
"It was good. It wasn't all about football. They came downstairs and played the game with me, I was playing Call of Duty most of the time when they were there. I had my brother there and we were just playing the game," Bell said. "So, it really wasn't about football, they talked about it to my mom a little bit, but mostly they talked to her about other things and I guess we'll talk football when we get down there this weekend."

"She said she was really impressed with how coach Jones handled himself," Bell offered. "It was real big they usually come and talk about football, but it's all about building a relationship and being comfortable with them and it's all about being a family. That's one thing I'm looking for throughout this whole thing is a family atmosphere."

On Upcoming TN Visit

"I'm not really looking for any answers this weekend. I'm going to ask the players questions, how they treat the players. But, it's going to be a real good weekend to see how I feel," Bell said. "We're going to go to a basketball game and see how that goes. I'm going to be out with the players and I'll be with them most of the time so we'll see how the atmosphere is."

"I know everybody up there. Everybody up there is family and I know they're going to take care of me and it's going to be a real good weekend," Bell said.

On Bama Visit

"That really went good. Coach Saban really opened his home to us. It was a real home, family feel to it," Bell said. "His wife is a heck of a lady and that's all you can ask for. She's a heck of a lady and just being around here was cool like being around all of the coaching staff."

On Final Decision

"It's going to come down to everything. When we get done with these visits we're going to write downt he pros and cons and stuff like that. It will be a real big weekend," Bell said.

The report concerning him playing games during the visit was posted last night in this thread. I did not take it as a major negative. Just letting the family bond a bit with the Vol's staff.

Edit: and Ron beats me to the punch.... Good work sir...:hi:

Oh for Gods sake let the coaches do what they do and chill

Or you can worry about yourself because I'm not calling out the coaches. Just posting what I heard. I would think that a recruit deciding to play video games instead of talking to the coaches during their one and only in home visit would not be a good thing. He was more interested in that than getting to know them or talking football and where he would fit in with the new defense. Doesn't sound promising to me.

o my gah I dont believe that for one second. If anything, the coaches spoke with parents to address concerns, and a few coaches stayed with Von, and they said so what do you wanna do? I know lets blow some **** up on call of duty! Compete a little and bond, and joke around. If anyone thinks that Vonn sat by and ignored coaches playing a game, the whole time literally need to step away from the recruiting form, for just a bit, because it's getting to their head.

Have you read any of the quotes saying that one of the visiting coaches was actually playing the game with him?

That turns it from the negative you reported to a very good positive.

Holy sh*t I wasn't trying to "report" it as negative or possitive or any other way (even tho I definitely don't see how anyone could say it is a possitive). I just posted exactly what they said on the radio. I didn't know there was an article about it or that it had been talked about on here before. My mistake. When I heard them say that he played call of duty instead of talking to the coaches I came to let everyone else know what they said. It doesn't sound possitive to me but hey y'all can spin it whatever way you'd like (surprise surprise).

Yes, alot of things that has come out since Dooley's departure are very alarming. I think CBJ gets it, at least I hope he does. Alot of us thought Dooley was going to be a great recruiter when he pulled D Rogers. The staff probably deserves the credit there, not Dooley.

The recruitment of Da'rick had already started prior to Dooley's arrive. I think Kiffin had already been putting in work with him and nance.

Hmmm...wonder what Nick has his wife doing to impress these recruits so much. :)

So you think that the fact that he was not involved in the coaches conversation with the family during their only in home visit is a possitive thing just because one of the coaches probably tried to connect with him or get his attention by playing with him? You would rather him sit and play Xbox then actually being involved in the visit and talking with the coaches? How in the would can you say that it is a very possitive thing that he couldn't put down the controller for a couple hours to talk with the coaches after they came to visit him at his house. He had more interest in playing a freaking video game than getting to know our coaching staff, figuring out what kind of defense they will run, and how they see him fitting into it. Not only does that sound disrespectful to me but it sounds like a recruit who is not interested in what our coaching staff has to say. I don't know how in the hell you have convinced yourself of anything else.

Doesn't look to me like you were trying to do anything but make this negative. Young man said himself that the in home visit was more for his family, he would find out everything he needed to know when he gets to Knoxville.

You sir, need a Valium. He did not say he tried to play with him. He said he played with him. And maybe the visit was scheduled to get to know his parents. Just a thought. But Saturday is Vonn Bell day at The University of Tennessee. :hi::hi:

Besides....have you played Call of Duty? That game is really hard to put down. Just sayin.
Haha this.

Also for a 17/18 year old (I'm 19) playing Call of Duty is something a lot of us do either seriously or just occasionally. They were probably just like "What do you do for fun, Vonn?" And he probably said "I like video games." So the staff then said "Let's go down and watch you play, maybe play you a bit, we are here to get to know you better."

I can almost guarantee it wasn't like him not wanting to talk to our staff or ignoring them.

Honestly if it was me I'd like for the staff to just hangout like that lol.

His wife is a troll.

I think it is a good tactic to try to relate. Do you think Dooley ever touched an XBOX or PS controller?

I'm 48 and play video games. Why? Because they are fun.

These kids are smart enough to know that once they are on a team and in practice....the fun and games will be all over then. It will be time to get down to business. Can pretty much guarantee the coaches won't be offering to play video games with them later on. Take advantage of it while you can.

Go back and read my original post. I said nothing negative, just reported what they said. Now in my opinion I definitely think this in not a good sign and said so after my original post after I had a chance to think about it some more but again I originally just posted exactly what they said on the radio. I don't think that's very hard to understand.

Never lol.

It's definitely a good strategy. I'm sure some oldvols might be concerned and think that he was ignoring our staff, but like I said they were just trying to relate and make him comfortable. It's not like our staff has known Vonn for more than a few months, they're still getting to know him..

I do...it would explain why a lot of things slipped through the cracks. Such as recruiting, game planning, etc. If you think about it, him jumping on an XBOX at halftime would explain the lack of adjustments that seemed to never be made.
