Everyone seems to be confident in this thread. IIRC, many thought he would commit here the instant he got the offer from UT or something like that. I just hope he still has UT on top in January

I know when NSD is. It's the first week in Feb. My point was that it means a lot more if UT is his top school then rather than now. There's just so much time for other schools to negatively recruit against UT. If he still favors UT in the winter, then those schools didn't get into his head and he's likely to be a Vol.

The sooner we get elite recruits on board, the better. I understand the feeling of pulling in an elite recruit on signing day, believe me. It's a darn good feeling! However, if you can go ahead and get an elite recruit or two on board, then that increases the likelihood of getting another elite recruit or two on board, and so on. Waiting till NSD just decreases those chances when you're in the shape UT has been in the last few years, all the uncertainties concerning the staff and future of the program and such. But, like I said before, I'll take 'em whenever we can get 'em, whether it's now or NSD.

Does that also not give the Vols more time to negatively recruit against other schools (particularly Urban)? Do not be naive; tactics are the same at most schools and in most fan bases. :whistling:

Lol those other schools have a lot more ammunition to use against UT than UT has to use against them. I never said UT was immune to negatively recruiting players either. I'm sure they do it too. It's just harder for us to do it against teams who are winning.

They do not start negative recruiting because he is committed. They are already doing that and will continue doing that regardless of a commitment.

I'm sure they are doing everything to dissuade him from committing to UT

That's correct. So again if he choses to commit to UT, nothing will change. He will still be recruited and they will down play UT like they currently are. I hope he pulls the trigger. NSD makes my blood pressure go up.

Yeah, it's on our coaches to help him see past the BS the other schools are feeding him. NSDs are always intense. Hopefully this next one treats UT well

Dooley's inability to get the big names to commit early has hindered his recruiting. These other schools are taking marque players and asking them to recruit for them. That was Fulmer's strategy and it normally paid off.

Who was that stud o lineman that Fulmer recruited in 05... The one that recruited for us......

Oh yeah, he didnt.

Exactly. Negative recruiting is an everyday method. It won't alter Bells decision cause he has and will continue to hear it all.

I think tim is referring to Dooley getting Austin Sanders on board early. It has been well-documented how often Austin recruits for us by getting in the ear of other recruits.

Yes because I love getting all of these Knoxville natives Cody Blancs and Josh Smith!

Notice you didnt mention the Beardon Sophomore Devrin Young. And that mentality has cost us over the years, UK's Cobb, who is now in the NFL is an Alcoa product who would've loved an offer from UT.

Just my 2 cents, but IMO Randall Cobb is the exception and not the rule when it comes to local players. It would be cool to see what UT would have been with him on the roster though.

You've also got to think about the fact that Cobb went to UK with a huge chip on his shoulder believing he deserved a UT offer. , Without that drive, he may have never become the player he turned out to be.
