How is Sanders not a big time recruit? If he opened up his recruitment tomorrow, he'd have a dozen calls by lunch time.

I wasn't trying to insinuate that Sanders isn't a good player. I think he is a very solid player & many other schools would be interested in having him.

I did post "big-time" recruit because those were the words used by the poster before me, but I was really suggesting that I don't think Sanders is an "elite" recruit. I should have worded it better.

I think the only prospects I would label "elite" from TN would be Ramsey & Bell (if you count him from TN). I also really like Carr, JRM, and really wish UT could have landed Wilkins. He is a good RB.

I understand the point you are getting at. But Carr isn't 100% to UT & is listening seriously to Ole Miss, JRM is still undecided, and Sanders isn't necessarily what I would consider a "big-time" recruit.

Ramsey is the only elite, in-state prospect UT has lost out on this recruiting cycle, because UT didn't continue to pursue Herron IIRC. But losing JRM or Bell would be inexcusable, IMO. CDD also needs to hold on to Carr. Landing JRM and Gray would certainly help.

I think this weekend will tell the tale. If Maybin makes the om visit, im not sure anyone knows what will happen, if he cancels the visit, all vol. I believe Bell ends up a Vol. OSU pounds Bell everytime they speak about our coaches not being here next year, Bells seems smart enough to understand noone knows what will happen til the season gets started. We didnt pursue Herron very hard, and no, i dont know why.

Music to my ears.

This. I think Urbie will do OK at OSU, but I think CBH has Michigan going in the right direction at the speed of light. He has done wonders for that program. and.. DUDE CAN FLAT OUT COACH.

I think Urb is going to start wrecking the Big 10 personally. Hoke will be his only threat but his system will be a problem for the defenses up there. He's got a great QB for it already. And he's got a good defense coming back. He added to it with that stupid D-line class last year.

I consider big time and elite different. I getcha though.

Urban will have an SEC d-line up there. They had a killer d-line haul.

I agree that we can't consistently land the few top prospects in Tennessee. We can land 1 or 2.. i.e. Tiny, Cam Clear or Bowles or A.Sanders, C.Patrick, but 3 or 4 also are stolen away. Other SEC schools lock their state down UGA,Bama, FL, LSU, USC, AU. This is hurting us with our current need at certain positions like RB.

Who have we lost that we really wanted?

Why can't we? Winning cures all.

Try to look back to the late 90's and early 2k's when Alabama and georgia was down and proove to me They have always locked down their instate talent. Locking down in state talents starts with winning.

Sanders is one of the best offensive line prospects if not the best in the state. Don't feed me that crap that he is not a big time recruit.

Brady Hoke is going to build the most SEC like team in the big 10 imo. Urbie will struggle with UM.

You think so? Urbie has won the SEC and National championship. I think he really knows how to build an SEC type of squad. That D-line he's putting together is straight SEC style.

This is what I typed in the "Recruiting in Tennessee" thread. Hopefully this will give a perspective on the prospects that we have missed on.

Before Dooley
-Marlon Brown WR (UGA Starter)
-Derrick Webb LB (Colorado Starter)
-Barrett Jones OL (Bama all-american)
-Donta Hightower LB (Bama all-american)
-Dontari Poe DL (Memphis 1st rd pick)
-David Spurlock-OL (4 year starter FL state)
-Michael McAdoo(plays for Baltimore Ravens, DL)
-Tenarius Wright(Starter LB for Ark)
-Randell Cobb (biggest miss in UT recruiting, 2nd rd pick)

Last two years

-I'Tavius Mathers,4* (back-to-back 2000yd seasons Ole Miss)
-Mark Dodson 4* (MVP at Nike Combine Memphis Ole Miss)
-Jovon Robinson, 4* (every down type RB UT needs (Auburn)
-Jordan Wilkins, 4* (best RB prospect to come from TN in years 210lbs 4.4fourty Auburn)
-Brian Kimbrow, 4* (C.Rainey&J.Demps style 4.3fourty on lazers Vanderbilt)
-Jalen Ramsey, 4* (Shut-down CB MVP of multiple National Camps USC)
-Frank Heron, DE 4* (good addition to our 3-4 or 4-3 LSU)
-Graham Shuler, 4*OL (Top OL at U.S. Army game Stanford)
-Sheldon Dawson 3* (ATH 4.4fourty CB or RB UGA)
-Will Redmond, 4* (ATH Miss St. would add depth at CB or WR)

I understand that we will not get every prospect, but there is no reason that the VOLS should have this many misses on elite prospects. I think we did a good job in 2010&2011, but take a look for yourself. Do you think Saban, Richt, Spurrier, L.Miles, or W.Muschamp would let this happen? I am in full support of D.Dooley and I don't think he will be fired.

We could have used these in-state players to add depth if anything.

It happens to Richt every year, luckily for him GA produces 5 times the div 1 talent TN does.

Kimbrow played us to the left when he was here. Thinking the coaches had to kiss up to him(Pig Howard is better at the same things Kimbrow does).

I wish we had gotten Redmond(big time player)

Dawson would've been a good pickup but he underwhelmed at camp and the coaches cooled on him.

Herron(don't know why we cooled on him) and Ramsey this year are two I wanted bad in this class.

Robinson at RB was nice as is Wilkins this year.

Dodson wasn't what we really need at RB.

Mathers just didn't like UT period.....

But Dooley did pull Richardson, Stone, Bowles, Clear, and Jac Smith among others in-state. I do agree he has got to do a better job of pulling what he wants when wants from the state. But Kiffin lost the big time LB out of Memphis to LSU. It happens.....

Richt could compete for National Championships with his in-state talent alone. Auburn is trying to do it with a boatload of Georgia talent.

Richt should have already played for a couple of nc with the talent hes had. I see people compare him to Fulmer all the time, i agree they're similar in Fulmers latter years, but Fulmer could coach when he had the fire. They have a very good team returning this year and a soft schedule by sec standards, he'll still lose a game he shouldnt.

I've said this to myself too. I think this team he has this year is loaded. That defense can dominate a game. But the running game may be a problem. And the offensive coordinator gets real stupid at times(similar to Chaney). We'll see what they do.
