Why are we discussing J. Pastners recruiting abilities? That's not his problem. He will generally be able to staff a talented team just from city of Memphis recruits that fall in his lap. As I have said all along I do not want to get to thick in recruiting the Memphis kids...You have to be VERY selective about the type of kid you take in your program and just not sure hanging out in Memphis every year is that fruitful...now I think this year may be a little different with several HIGH QUALITY PEOPLE coming out of Memphis....but you can get burned often if you're not careful...

I would typically agree with that statement, but I have a feeling that Counzo already knows what type of player he has in mind as far as person and skill are concerned. I think that is why he never jumped back on the Chris Jones' train when he clearly had established some type of relationship with him to get him to reaffirm his once-committment. There had to have been some red flags for him not to get back into the thick of it with a top JUCO PG. The guys he has coming in and already recruited here seem to be good charactered/high quality guys. Davis and Hubbs seem to fit that mold as well as Nichols and JW3. Counzo definitely has a presence in Memphis, but it seems he will also dive into his old Big 10 stomping grounds to get a guy and keep the GA connection alive as well.

I agree. Look at the Memphis area recruiting class for 2014. One top 100 recruit that just committed to Baylor. That's it.

No, YOU claimed that Martin would get more of the "Big 3 Memphis Recruits" than Pastner would, those recruits being King, Nichols and J3. I disagreed that Martin would get more. It looks like I'm going to be correct.

Martin has a presence in Memphis, and Memphis DID want Hubbs and Nichols. But, despite losing out on those guys, Memphis will still sign 6 top 100 recruits potentially, and at least 5, including our priority no. 1 recruit in King.

I don't see what Pastner has to be nervous about. He's landing a top 5 recruiting class, without having to rely purely on Memphis talent.

EDIT: I don't think our discussion of the Memphis three involved Hubbs, but I can't be sure. Even if it did, my point about Memphis' class holds true.

Good edit because it did include hubbs, it was 4 players king, Nichols, j3 and hubbs. I said Martin would get more than Martin...looks like I'm going to be right, so you may want to also edit were you said you're going to be correct.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch, Memphis still is waiting on some guys and while I'm sure it ends nicely, I wouldn't guarantee a top 5 at this point.

IMO the reason he hold be nervous is this...if he floats to mediocrity in the big east recruiting on a national stage will become tougher. Most of the time you could fall back on Memphis and land a solid class just from that city, however with Martin making himself a presence and pulling these kids, pastner may not have that luxury in the future.

It was 3 players, and I'm almost certain it was King, Nichols and JW3, the three guys from the City. Doesn't make sense for us to bet over Memphis city recruits and include Hubbs, but it was a long time ago.

As for "counting chickens", Memphis already has 3 top 100 recruits, with 3 more spots to fill. UT is singing CCM's praise from the mountain tops and you guys only have 2 top 100s and only 1 to 2 more spots to fill. Memphis is pretty certain to have a top 5 class.

All of your predictions for Pastner involve him turning out to be a "mediocre coach". If that's the horse you're betting on, then fine, but don't act like he can't recruit. Kids like Powell, King, Crawford, and Goodwin are still lining up to play for him in his 4 season. His recruiting is only getting better, especially with the addition of Aki Collins.

I told you a long time ago, there is enough talent in this Memphis class for both Pastner and Martin to get their players. That looks to be whats happening.

Would you like me to pull the quote?

Well see if pastner can finally do something with all that talent. Keep underachieving and you have to think eventually the recruiting gets a bit harder.

Sports animal talking about hubbs Nichols j3...said they've been told CCM will take both and figure out numbers later.

Not anything new, just nice to hear it said again.

Pull away. You've got nothing but time on your hands, it would seem.

And keep your fingers crossed that Pastner "underachieves". You've obviously got a very personal axe to grind with one of the nicest coaches out there.

No not at all, just really dislike the Memphis fans and the city of Memphis, and would love to see their sports do nothing but fail.

Classy stuff. It tells me a lot of what I need to know about a person when they say stuff like this.

Uhm ok, I don't like Memphis, didn't realize that made me the equivalent of a serial killer.

You're on a UT board get the sand out of your vag....do you see the UK posters crying about people dogging UK?

I'm a Memphian Vol and so many things are exaggerated about the city of Memphis. I hate to break it to you folks but Nashville ain't that much better these days, as far as crime is concerned.

Save your breath, brother. The folks who don't like Memphis are speaking from a place of ignorance 99% of the time. They've hardly ever lived, worked or spent any considerable amount of time in the city. They hear stories from other middle and east Tennesseans about the crime and the racial make-up of the city and Memphis is suddenly the worst place in the Universe.

Mexico may be worse.

Personally love Memphis, but it has its problems, just like any large city. To be honest, for a city with a million plus in the Metro area, Memphis always felt very small and homey to me.

I do love Knoxville though.

And also like any big city, those problems are easily circumvented.
