'13 TN DE Jason Carr (UT signee)

Carr he still wants to check out other schools, mainly Ole Miss and Alabama, but that he's still committed to the Vols. He said Tennessee's showing him the most attention and the school that shows him the most attention all the way through is where he's going to go.

He said the team that shows him the most attention is where he'll end up signing. Right now we are after him the hardest, so there's nothing to be upset about. I don't blame him for evaluating his options.

"Things are pretty much still the same. I'm still interested in Ole Miss, but Tennessee they're still real, real high and I'm still committed to them and I'm a man of my word," Carr said.

Carr was under the tutelage of defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri and defensive line coach John Palermo for most of the day and he said it made him feel like he was already a Vol.

"Made me feel like I was already on the team," Carr said of being coached by Palermo and Sunseri. "They just really went over the basics of things because they didn't want to cloud my head with too much. They just talked about getting better as a player and a man."

"It's the instate school and you always want to play for the instate school. They are very interested in me and I said to myself I'm going to go to the school that's most interested in me and right now that's Tennessee," Carr said.

He said, "I'm still committed to them, and I'm a man of my word." All that I need to see. I think many of you are right when saying he is keeping his options open, just in case the season goes down hill and DD isn't here. I don't think that will happen.

Or making sure his coach doesn't get fired and then he gets left without options if he didn't like replacement. If Dooley survives Carr is a vol

This is the case for a lot of recruits both committed and those sitting on the fence. Having a great season will definitely help and will alleviate some negative recruiting against us.

He's a man of his word yet he will go to the school that shows him the most attention. If you're a man of your word then you don't even look at other schools. Example, Austin Sanders.

The kid is honest about his intentions. I have no problem at all with how he's handling things. I just can't stand the lying or when guys are trying to play the recruiting game.

I love Carr as a player and I definitely want to see him end up a Vol, but his attitude on recruiting sucks, honestly.

He wants to be a UT commitment, but he still wants the coaches to recruit him. We need our commits to be 100% on board, so that the coaches can spend their time and resources on the un-committed prospects that we are after. I'm not saying the coaches should ignore our current commits, but they shouldn't be having to spend alot of time with them when we could be putting even more time and effort in with another prospect.

Agree 100%. If a recruit commits why should the coaches still have to recruit him as hard as possible? He could free up some time to go after other guys by just touching base with Carr.

This is an unreasonable position. Obviously, as fans, we want everyone to be 100% committed, attend camps to boost their "star" ratings, and recruit other kids to join them at UT. However, that view fails to consider the most important thing for the individual recruit, and that's the recruit. Carr has every right to, and should, consider all options (whether he is committed or not). He should also enjoy the recruiting process if he chooses. The best way to view it is to put yourself in a recruits shoes (and try to remove your UT bias). Would you want to be wooed by college coaches across the county? Would you want to take free official visits to campuses, have pretty girls host you on your visit, attend games for free, and attend college parties where everyone knows who you are? I know I would have when I was 17/18-years old. Heck, that still sounds great.

Because you have to keep them. Other teams don't stop recruiting guys until they sign. You quit contacting a guy, and there is a good chance that someone else is. The only reason you would quit contacting a guy is if you don't care if they look around because you are recruiting over them with a better prospect.

Agree. Coaches back away from players often enough. Kids should play the game and keep their options open.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but the simple fact is that a kid who does this shouldn't be considered a commit. I would call him a UT lean, but not a commit.

This is ridiculous.

Yes a recruit should check out his options and enjoy the process...BEFORE HE IS COMMITTED.

Goodness.

And don't bring up the whole do I want out coaches to recruit other committed players. Of course I do. But if a recruit is a true commit they can tell the coach no thanks. A la sanders. So the problem is with the commits, not with the pursuing coaches. IMO

Because commitments are not binding on either side, it's a silly term to use in recruiting.
