'13 TN DE Jason Carr (UT signee)

This sounds like one heck of a young man and player. If Jason decides to come here or go to another school we should support him in his dream to play college football.

I love Carr as a player and I definitely want to see him end up a Vol, but his attitude on recruiting sucks, honestly.

He wants to be a UT commitment, but he still wants the coaches to recruit him. We need our commits to be 100% on board, so that the coaches can spend their time and resources on the un-committed prospects that we are after. I'm not saying the coaches should ignore our current commits, but they shouldn't be having to spend alot of time with them when we could be putting even more time and effort in with another prospect.

Kind of ridiculous to think he is different than the avg blue chipper. Every year we see a kid (sadly fulmer had a bunch) who says they flipped cause the coaches "didnt show them any love".

Recruiting universe should prolly work on a new word for committed.

UT commit + a man of his word + wants to go to school that shows him the most interest (which he said is TN) = VFL!! Everyone quit getting your panties in a wad.

OCI, speaking of that, are you in favor of an early signing period?

No. It would be a disaster. There are so many college coaching changes after the season, and kids would continue to sign because of pressure from coaches. This would result in a lot of kids trying to get out of their LOIs.

The unsuccessful teams would never be able to show improvement to potential recruits.

It seems like most (or at least alot) of the coaches are in favor of the early signing period. You bring up excellent points of why it wouldn't be a good thing, but I find it curious so many coaches are in favor of it.

I personally am kind of indifferent, but I love the build-up and excitement that Signing Day brings, and I would hate to lose that spectacle. So I guess I'm kind of against it, also.

No I'm not kidding.

If he wants to visit other schools that's fine go right ahead, but don't come out & say I'm a man of my word but I'll go to which ever school shows me the most attention.

How do those even go hand & hand? They don't.

If we aren't showing him the most attention we shouldn't get him. He's a top prospect, in-state, at a position of need. Why shouldn't get showed a lot of attention from us? If we continue to recruit him like we should there won't be a problem.

yea the 2 dont go together at all

especially when he basically says if some other team makes him their #1 priority they could pull him

I agree to a degree. I think that if he was as committed to Tennessee as he says then he would understand if we shifted our focus a little to other remaining targets. We shouldn't completely ignore the kid no, but we have +200 offers out, we can't stay up the kids butt 24/7 just b/c he wants to go to the school that shows him the most attention.

+1

You would think they would understand the school not giving them as much attention once they've signed because the coaches are out trying to get quality players for him and the rest of the team to compete with.

If there was an early signing bonus we would be f***** this season. And jmo is right. Play the recruiting game before you commit. Not after.

somebody stated it earlier, but he's a UT lean. That's the only word that can describe him if he's going to continue to be recruited. I have no problem with him taking trips and stuff, but I have a problem with "committing" to a school and then continuing the process. Just don't say you are committed if you aren't.

Right on. Instead of refocusing my efforts on top uncommitted targets, now I gotta keep on telling you how much we need you every day to make sure you don't hit the back door. I know it's never the norm, but I appreciate Austin sanders approach. "other coaches come and I dont even talk to them.". And he is actively recruiting for Tennessee. Which one is demonstrating how to be a team player more?
