Here is the way I see it. At this point, I believe it is still too early to say if any of the coaches cant cut it. This time last year, many werent sold on Jancek. This year, hes doing a lot better job. Oh yeah, he has better talent and speed. Funny how that makes a difference.
I dont believe there is an issue with questioning a certain call at a certain point in the game. There is no doubt that it is easy to see in hindsight that a play wasnt a good call, because it didnt work. I think most on here would agree that Chaney is a good offensive coordinator, yet I thought he made some really head scratching calls sometimes. Same with John Chavis. He is a great d-coordinator, yet there is a well-known term on VN third and Chavis. The fact is, every coordinator makes bad calls almost every game. Sometimes your talent is good enough and the team youre playing isnt; then it doesnt matter what you call, because the players execute against inferior talent.
At this point, we dont have much margin for error on the O-line. Whose fault is that? A large portion falls on Dooley. Some maybe on the current coaches, maybe not. I dont know the answer. But until the line is better, guaranteed there is going to be a lot of bad plays called because the o-line is getting beat. I am not knocking the o-line either, they have been thrown into the fire and are giving their all. Trial by fire is usually not fun.
I think the issue is NOT that nobody should question the calls or the coaches. It is this: when I read some of these posts, it comes across as this coach doesnt know what he is doing; if I was calling the plays, we would have won. I hope that isnt what is intended, but that is how it comes across. I am going to guess that in most cases, the coordinator has about 10 seconds to decide what play to call (barring time out, injury, penalty, etc.) Now hopefully, most of us dont really think we could do a better job than the coaches. I know I couldnt. I do question what they do sometimes. However, sometimes the players just dont execute. We are still playing a bunch of freshman, more than any team in the country. The margin of error is very thin.
I guess what I am saying here is I dont have a problem with questioning calls or even the coaches. Maybe the way it is done is the issue. Some posters sure seem like they have an axe to grind. They dont like a certain coaches; or they post the same thing over and over about a certain coach or player. Kind of like with AJ; last year there were lots of posts about AJ not doing this or not being good at that; all of a sudden, AJ has 2 years with the same coaches and better talent around, and suddenly he is a LOT better.
This program was a dumpster fire by the time the previous coach was discharged. It is going to take 3-4 years minimum to get it really cleaned up.
Just my 2 cents. :twocents:

Awesome post! :good!: I actually went back and read it a second time. So much truth in what you said. Play calling, offense or defense, has to really wear on a coaches mind and nerves. It always makes me think of some of the things Gen. Neyland talked about when comparing football to war.
Wasted year for Weisman...a redshirt year would have aided him in getting healthy and being a starter the next three seasons...as is he's getting minimal snaps and we're not going to have the option of redshirting him the next two seasons...cuz he'll be starting. We're going to have the same threads bemoaning Worley's burnt redshirt during Wize's senior season IMO.
Volfaninmo - good post. Personally, I know Jake can do better and it disappoints me that he seems to get away from stuff that is working because he perceives he needs to do something else, when the opponent's D has not been adjusted to stop what is working. Make them stop you first. The UGA game he called last year was a masterpiece. I was really pumped. Then it all went away and back to the slow developing and sideways stuff. That dog don't hunt in the SEC and I really don't know how and why he continues to emphasize it. You do a little of it to probe, but then go to work north and south. Then he comes back with a good attack against UGA again - offense clicks early and late. In the middle he went back to the slow and sideways. That's just wrong. The TE and deep post have been open down the middle all season. Anytime you see safeties in 2 deep zone you need to do those two plays. TE down the middle behind the LB's. Play action and the deep post with the RB to stay in and block. Basics of football. When you do that stuff the D has to move some back out of the box and that frees the run lanes. Did not do any of it against UF - after the success he had the week before. Baffling. Not trying to be an expert or a coach - but that stuff is middle school and HS knowledge.
The coach worship is what disturbs me. No matter how poor a job one or more do, posters get blasted for calling it for what it is. After Dools, Kiffin, and Fulmer's junk over the last 10 years you would think they would learn. The longer you wait for the wheel to squeak, the longer it takes for meaningful change to occur. So amazingly we see Kendrick and Sanders back in play for playing time. Imagine that.
This is the Sanders thread. It's time for him, Kendrick and others to get their opportunity. The more experience all of them get this season the better. It's time for Mahoney to prove he can develop players. Some people are angry because they saw what Pittman did when Hiestand blew it, and they know Butch had the opportunity to keep him. Water under the bridge that cannot be changed. Now it's got to work with Mahoney. Hope he can get it done.
I think Weisman is going to be good enough to regret wasting a potential year...guess I'm alone in that opinion.
It'll be interesting to see how he plays C. Personally, I would have left Thomas at C and Weisman as the replacement for Jackson after next year. Maybe Thomas becomes our version of Barrett Jones and moves from RT to C :dunno:. As bad as our right side is on the OL, Crowder has really struggled. The OK game was embarrassing. I've never seen a LG have to tap a C to get him to hike the ball. I also question how well Crowder calls out blitz packages and new OL formations, which is a huge part of being a C. If he doesn't call those blitz out or new OL formations correctly, the responsibility falls all on Worley.

Seams like a dead give away when you are hiking the ball, but I get why we were having to do it. First time I've ever seen that, shows how observant I am.
