Here is the way I see it. At this point, I believe it is still too early to say if any of the coaches can’t cut it. This time last year, many weren’t “sold on Jancek”. This year, he’s doing a lot better job. Oh yeah, he has better talent and speed. Funny how that makes a difference.
I don’t believe there is an issue with questioning a certain call at a certain point in the game. There is no doubt that it is easy to see in hindsight that a play wasn’t a good call, because it didn’t work. I think most on here would agree that Chaney is a good offensive coordinator, yet I thought he made some really head scratching calls sometimes. Same with John Chavis. He is a great d-coordinator, yet there is a well-known term on VN “third and Chavis”. The fact is, every coordinator makes bad calls almost every game. Sometimes your talent is good enough and the team you’re playing isn’t; then it doesn’t matter what you call, because the players execute against inferior talent.
At this point, we don’t have much margin for error on the O-line. Whose fault is that? A large portion falls on Dooley. Some maybe on the current coaches, maybe not. I don’t know the answer. But until the line is better, guaranteed there is going to be a lot of bad plays called because the o-line is getting beat. I am not knocking the o-line either, they have been thrown into the fire and are giving their all. Trial by fire is usually not fun.
I think the issue is NOT that nobody should question the calls or the coaches. It is this: when I read some of these posts, it comes across as “this coach doesn’t know what he is doing; if I was calling the plays, we would have won.” I hope that isn’t what is intended, but that is how it comes across. I am going to guess that in most cases, the coordinator has about 10 seconds to decide what play to call (barring time out, injury, penalty, etc.) Now hopefully, most of us don’t really think we could do a better job than the coaches. I know I couldn’t. I do question what they do sometimes. However, sometimes the players just don’t execute. We are still playing a bunch of freshman, more than any team in the country. The margin of error is very thin.
I guess what I am saying here is I don’t have a problem with questioning calls or even the coaches. Maybe the way it is done is the issue. Some posters sure seem like they have an axe to grind. They don’t like a certain coaches; or they post the same thing over and over about a certain coach or player. Kind of like with AJ; last year there were lots of posts about AJ not doing this or not being good at that; all of a sudden, AJ has 2 years with the same coaches and better talent around, and suddenly he is a LOT better.
This program was a dumpster fire by the time the previous coach was discharged. It is going to take 3-4 years minimum to get it really cleaned up.
Just my 2 cents. :twocents:

Good post.

Since it's a TEAM game, everybody needs to do better - players & coaches both, IMO. It's not solely on the OL or the coaches.

Blaming an individual player or coach is understandable, though. We are passionate Tennessee fans & we want to fix whatever or whoever needs fixing so we can start winning NOW, dammit!

Last year he logged a lot of minutes...couldn't be helped...this year ?...not so much. :ermm:

That is more because Dylan can't stay healthy. He missed all of fall camp and then has been banged up again. It's not a good sign that he hasn't been able to stay healthy both years despite all the praise his teammates give him.

Kind of my point...why play him hurt?...for just a minimalist role?

Someone said that he got good push on the Mocs 1st string D line. Apparently the Mocs have a couple potential NFL draft picks in the DL.

let Sanders play more. at least he has the strength to push somebody around in the SEC. I swear Crowder and Thomas look incredibly weak.

Just hasn't clicked with Austin yet. Again, it is a developmental position. Potential is there, just takes some molding

Hasn't clicked? Last 6 minutes of the game, Austin gets 4 pancakes and also wins Knockdown King Of The Game, hmm! It's more than what any of us know! Whatever it is, Austin doesn't say anything more than what coaches say to him.....so, idk why he's not in, idk why Brett is not in, I do know that Dylan is battling an injured shoulder, but that's it! Other than that, it's baffling to me too but I go with it because I'm not a coach, but I know I would be talking to coaches if Austin was out on the field showing what some speculate, but he's not!!!!

Thanks for your post. If you look back through the thread I have posted it baffles me as well. I appreciate your perspective and I guess we'll both just remain baffled.

Austin is running a 5 flat 40; he benches 415; he squats over 600
That's .3 seconds faster than some, 165 lbs more on bench, 200 lbs more on squats, and was praised on good foot speed and strong hands so.......
He'll probably get mad if he reads this because he too goes with what the coaches say. If they say he's not ready, then obviously he's not, the above was just pointing out what he does do!
I also know Brett benches over 400 and squats 550, idk about his 40 time, but any man that weighs 300 lbs and can dunk a basketball, that's athletic to me!

I agree he played well yesterday, and obviously we need to change something up

Would love to see him supplant either on the outside. Understand Thomas being a Fr, but Kerbyson needs to move back inside

What could have happened with him getting 1st team reps, what could have happened with 30 minutes of play, even 15?
And trust me when I say this, I'm not saying Austin is the right guy for the job, he'll play when they think he's ready. I like the fact that people can only can only speculate on his play being bad and not be seen by millions

Well I'm extremely baffled but all I can do is watch and try to understand !

At this point we are all baffled that CBJ seemingly refuses to try something else. Maybe after watching our starting 5 get manhandled by UTC he'll be open to trying something new...but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.
