'13 TN OT Christian Morris

I heard he is not happy with UT. He was going to commit a couple of weeks ago but UT blew him off, that is why he is angry

I do recall on the recruiting show the other night where Bell gave the interview a couple of the guys were talking about Morris and one of them mentioned his size and he seemed to think he was under sized to play any time soon at the major level.

That's where I heard the size issue. That coupled with rumors we pulled the offer is where I came up with that opinion. It certainly could be a stretch

If this is the case I bet it could come back to bite us like the Patrick Willis situation. I think the Willis situation is different as in Willis was a diehard VOL growing up.

I think the staff gave him a fair shot, and brought him in, but I think in the end, we just decided he wasn't the type of OL we wanted. I mean, really, let's be honest. If he wanted to be a Vol, and we wanted him, it would happen. Obviously, one of them didn't happen.

From what I have seen so far, I think this is the first recruit this staff messed up on. And don't get me wrong, I have been extremely impressed with how they have been going about things since they took over. However, something happened here that has yet to be explained. This is a position of need, and this is a big time in state talent. Unless we have one or two other OL on the hook, which we possibly do, I don't see how you let this kid go. JMHO, blast away if you feel the need.

:)

I don't know man. I mean, yeah, he's highly rated, and in state agreed. But I've never heard anyone gush about how great he is. The general consensus seemed that he was slow and lazy more so than anything else. Just don't think he's the type of OL the staff was looking for.

I heard he is the one that stopped calling everyone :peace2:

Hubbs said it's the other way around. Morris begged the coaches to offer so they did and brought him for an OV and he basically stopped talking to them after. Went from calling/texting the new staff constantly to ignoring them after his OV. Hubbs said the staff wasn't pleased.

Of course Skeeter also said he thought Morris got his offer pulled on his visit

I have 100% trust with our coaches on this one. I certainly am not afraid to voice concerns about decisions they have made but this one isn't one to do that with IMO. Something smells here and it isn't a poor job from our coaches.

There was a camp in the fall that he got very good reviews from which gave him the bump in his ranking. I think the following statement came after that camp.

Morris had the task of taking on guys like Herron, Allen and others all day and held his own overall despite getting beaten at times in the afternoon. He uses his long arms effectively, moved his feet consistently and engaged with aggressiveness for the most part. The tackles for the East squad have had their hands full so far and Morris has held his own.

Two staffs have seemingly passed on him. The last staff said he was lazy and weak. I would tend to trust an actual college coaching staff (yes, even Dooley's) over guys who work at a Rivals who likely have the same qualifications as you or I to evaluate recruits. Let him go.

It's not as much about anyone holding on or letting go as much as it is just odd. I agree with trusting the staff's evaluation. And if the staff sees signs that he may fizzle out in year 1 or 2 they are right not to waste a scholly on him.

I posted a theory about this in the Recruiting Forum Football Talk thread just for giggles.

I would definitely trust Pittman's evaluation. He was a bright spot on that staff.

I agree. Both staff's have been shaky on him for a reason. So much so that they went after prospects in California.
