We honestly don't know how good any of our freshman players are on defense because Sal screwed the defense up so bad that players were running around like kids in a candy store.

They were put in horrible positions all year. Bad play calling will kill a lot of fast play, especially in a new overly complex scheme.

True, but lacking speed is a lot more alarming than missed assignments and missed tackles.

Like some of the others alluded to, sometimes not knowing what you are doing or where you are supposed to be on defense gives the impression of a lack of speed. Conversely, slower players can be effective if they know exactly where to be at all times and have good instincts (to a certain point) I mostly blame the coaching staff for our players not knowing what to do, and blame the rest on his being a freshman.
