Dang, that's 3 potential starters on defense potentially gone for them, if the other two also get the ax. Sumlin with no JM or Evans and losing starters on an already bad defense might have a hotseat-creating type of season.

Chuckles.... You think he needs those two to win? Both were good players no doubt but Sumlin can flat out coach. Hot seat status. Really???? After bringing the most excitement ever to the Aggie Nation.

Surely this is a joke. He has landed two great recruiting classes in a row and has #1 class for 2015 right now. Kyle Allen and Speedy Noil will be studs in that offense at QB and WR.

Agree, Sumlin is not going anywhere anytime soon. I do not see them winning big in the sec west tho.

You'd think some turnover on that A&M defense would be a good thing. Once they get a decent defense they will be hell. One thing people fail to take into account with these so called gimmicky offenses is that they have been successful at schools which dont often have good defensive recruiting. As the leach/mumme and kelly/ malzahn coaching tree starts to filter up towards better programs, it should be coupled with better defensive play/recruiting. I'm interested to see one of these offenses coupled with an elite defense. It wont be long now. I thought Sumlin landed an elite defensive player or two this past class.

What I wonder is if these up tempo offenses dont hurt your team defense. Just from a stamia/depth standpoint.

it seems like it would definitely affect the defense. 1:48 offensive drives are the norm seems like. The defenses will have to adjust too. But we havent seen one with elite players. If they are a true 3 and out defense then stamina issues should be abated somewhat, they'll just have more of them. Giving the ball back to a lethal offense will prob lead to some scoring records

Like you have stated alot of the elite championship caliber teams stay away from the up tempo. I just tend to think there is a reason but it would certainly be interesting to see an elite up tempo offense coupled with a truly elite defense.

Mainly Alabama,Lsu,Auburn. They are bringing in tons of talent so I guess its not crazy to assume they could. I guess I see the west as a power run conference and I really dont like Sumlins offense. This is just my opinion obviously.

If A&M had any type of defense last year they would've beat Auburn and Bama. To act as if that scheme won't work is crazy. They also run the ball more than you think. And they're loading up over in College Station. Also watch the Johnny Football effect bring in more talent than ever at A&M. LSU is the only school over there that has handled that offense. I personally don't think Bama or Auburn have recruited the type of players to handle this offense on the back end.

i agree but i have to say im interested to see how things play out for them this season. Manziel, Molena, Walker and Mike Evans bailed them out a ton. They bailed them out against Duke in the Bowl game too. If their D doesnt improve drastically then they will take several L's again this yr because i dont see the Offense being as lethal in 2014. their D has lost several Secondary players since last season and their fans are very concerned with the thin secondary. i have nothing against them but im just intrigued by them right now. Could go either way next year. They also have a few suspensions leading into next yr and they start off at Carolina.

You may be correct, I dont think that scheme cant work I just prefer a pro style smash mouth offense. Your point on defense is valid any defense totally changes their team. If they drastically improve there you may be correct.

Also think they have a massive drop in offensive production. I think A&M fans will realize just how special Johhny football was this year.

Auburn is this type of offense. FSU goes up tempo a lot in games. OSU goes up tempo. There is a reason they're trying to slow these offenses down. And it's not all a gimmicky style of offense. Just sped up to throw a defense off.

That offense makes QBs. When Johnny threw on time the offense was most effective. His special plays made him special. That offense is a QBs best friend and is proven outside of Johnny. The skill positions are loaded too so the next QB will just have to be a distributor.

To me Auburn and fsu are spread offenses but they both use a good amount of play clock at times especially fsu. Your point is valid though

I did forget sumlin basically made case keenum I believe so you are probably right. Will definitely be interesting though.

Ruffin McNeil, Dana holgerson, sonny dykes, art briles, kliff kingsbury, and sumlin just from the leach / mumme coaching tree. The only school with a shot at elite recruiting in that group is A&M with maybe baylor if they continue to be successful. So to say it doesn't work or that you don't believe in it would be hard to justify IMO. The air raid has proven to be trouble for big time programs with elite talent, playing against smaller, slower players. Sumlin will have a tougher year this year prob but that goes for any team replacing a qb. I don't think you can judge it til it is paired with a really good defense. The preponderance of the evidence so far tho, suggests the scheme has merit, otherwise these coaches wouldn't have been promoted so quickly into the multi million coaching bracket. Auburn will be hell to handle with a defense that gives up say, only 17 ppg in Conf play. The times they are a changin.
