'13 TX FS Kameron Miles

If some project him as a tweener type, anyone see this as another Pat Martin situation? Obviously he wasn't around long enough for things to unfold but he wasn't physically ready to contribute at S or OLB.

Miles is way better than Martin. Much better safety, much better athlete, much better prospect. Martin's offer list also pretty much sucked.

Martin's recruitment was fun to follow on Facebook before people began to freak out and post 'creepy' after every comment on here

Martin really wasnt rated that high either. He was a low 4-star by Rivals and that was the only site that had him as a 4-star. Everyone else had him a mid 3-star type guy rated somewhere in the 30's or 40's among safeties.

Yea I've found the same thing.

I really likes Miles at SS so hopefully he commits to us tonight. Then we can add Bell in the Fall, would be one of the top Safety combos in the Nation IMO.

Speaking of Bell, 247 has him as a top 20 player in the nation & close to 5* status yet Rivals has him outside the 250. Lol.

I agree with you on Miles. I think he's a solid National Top 100 guy for sure. Would be a great pickup.

I like Bell a lot but I think he's rated to high by 247 and way to low by Rivals. I'd put him in the 50-75 range nationally. I just dont see him being on the same level as Connor, Cravens or McQuay. I think those are the Top 3 safeties in this class.

I do like Bell and Miles better than some guys rated above them right now like Tray Matthews, Holland Fischer and Dymonte Thomas. Bell and Miles should be rated fairly close to one another IMO in that 5-7 range among safeties.

I think Reeves-Maybin is the guy who is ridiculously underated nationally.

Bringing Miles, Bell, and JRM in will really help with our lack of safety depth. It will allow for us to move Tino and Orta to CB where they look like they should be. They arent big safeties at all but they are nice sized CBs.

Strange offer list for a 4* in the Rivals100.

It has interest in Oklahoma and Texas warm on 247, but no offer. They may not want to offer unless he camps there or something along those lines. Thats my guess because it is an underwhelming list from a quality standpoint.

If we get him, hope we can keep him. After what happen with Santos at the last second nothing is sure with these kids from Texas until signing day.

@bperroni: I think he can play S as his speed and coverage improved a lot this year. He is likely going to be a LB in 2 yrs though

Aren't his measurables very similar to Landon Collins? Everyone wanted that kid for good reason, including Texas. Since he's a Texas kid, I guess they think they can go after higher prospects on their board and if they whiff, then swoop in last minute and get him...like Santos.

A legit concern, and one not to take off the table. Differences between the 2 are there though. Santos is from a very small town in E. TX, and Miles is from a major Dallas suburb. If I remember correctly from reading this thread last week this kids coach is a Vol, so thats helpful in our direction.

Can it happen...yes. The second Santos got the TX offer I was 99.999% sure he was going to take it. Obviously a TX or OK offer will make Miles think about it, even his family would probably prefer it due to proximity, but I would say it would be 50/50. It would be no different than any other recruiting battle for a kid that lives a 1000 miles away. I'm sure McNeill will help once he gets up on The Hill, if he isn't already.

Once CDD starts getting some more of these Dallas/N.TX kids then it will help us out in future recruiting. Remember y'all CDD did a 1 yr stint at SMU, so he has some contacts from that. Also, his wife is from Fort Worth, so I'm sure that helps too. He knows the area, and knows how to handle it.

I would prefer Miles got the TX and/or OU offers prior to his commitment, but I'll take the recruiting news at this moment. Deal with his possible de-commitment later. Lets just keep the possibility on the table, so we don't freak out later.

If we have a solid season next Feb will be amazing, and we won't be worrying so much. GBO!!!

If we can hold on to McNeil we can hold on to Miles. I think Santos was not the norm, he is just a Texas d bag.

Doesn't make much sense to me. I've watched his film and he is a great player. All indications of a good athlete. Most recruiting services hold him in high regard. No idea why his offer list is so unimpressive though. A TX kid with no offers from Texas and/or Oklahoma. Not even Oklahoma State or Texas A&M. He has a few solid offers from schools across the country, but really no true football powers.

With that being said, I hope he chooses UT today. Seems like a very solid player.

I know what your saying. Makes you feel like they know something we don't. It just don't fit the norm for top ranked Texas players. Not saying there is something but it is different that's for sure. But would love to get him and keep him.

No doubt. It would sure be nice to get to the point where natural corners at Tennessee aren't forced to move to safety out of need. It seems like for at least the last 10-12 years the best corners on the team have had to move to safety for one reason or another.
