'14 AL LB Gavin Bryant (UT Signee 2/5/14)

You gotta live self fulfilling prophecies.
Auburn coach: "See kid, their fans don't even trust you're coming."

If an Auburn coach were to reference a message board to try and get a kid to flip his commitment he should be fired immediately.

It's a message board dude. Nothing more.

Unless he decommits, there is no reason to assume he will IMO.

This is a funny post but its very true.

I don't think we would have accepted his commitment if we thought he would flip the first time Bama calls. Our staff is smarter than that.

And if we did, that probably means they think the kid is so good that he's worth the risk.

Not sure how it's funny, but I just don't see the use in counting players out while they are still committed. That said, if he was taking visits or something, then it's safer to assume that he may be having some second thoughts on his commitment. I'll leave it up to the coaches.

Going to have to fire a lot of coaches then, as there have been many examples of coaches using message boards to negative recruit.

Being that Bryant was raised up in those parts, it was perfectly natural to say the things he did to other folks there. Everybody knows he is a great player with grade issues, and he prolly doesn't like going on and on about that. It was enough for him to say Tennessee made him a good offer and he took it. I do expect he'll have better things to say in his own good time. Let's just hope that he takes care of his book bidness so he can play on our team like we really want him to do.

Got it backwards. Cherry was part of the reason Bryant committed. They hit it off on their visits, Cherry committed, and then Bryant a couple days later.

Ahh, thanks. I remembered some connection. Better like that, IMO. Really don't want to lose Cherry.

A few years ago I would have agreed. But I'm sure someone said something similar about coaches texting. We have several posters here that are related to the players. I wouldnt put it past a coach to have someone following the chatter.

For example. Let's say the kid is committed but is having 2nd thoughts. He is worried about letting someone down. "Don't worry kid. See their fans even expect you to change "if" we offer."

We like Bryant on tape. He has some good tools and his size appears to be legit. However, we haven't seen him in person. We've seen the other inside linebackers in the state of Alabama and feel they are better prospects right now. However, Bryant could move up in the next rankings release because we will have game film and production to go on. Not a big sample size with him at the moment.

Lol they think that's the film of a 5.6 3-star? After saying his size is legit? Quite possibly one of their worst evaluations I've seen.

Exactly. If Bryant makes it in next fall, Rivals.com will wish they would have graded him differently.

In other words, he hasnt paid to come to any of our camps. Awful evaluation and excuse for him being a 5.6. I heard he had his grade issues resolved so that's not an excuse. He actually has some of the better film of all our commits. I bet if he was a bama commit he wouldn't be a 5.6 3 star.

I bet if he were to open his recruitment back up and was considering bama and au(and they would take him) he would get that bump. Funny how that is how it usually works.

I agree

Powell moved into the top 250 too lol

What I would love to see is a recruit who is rated a 3 star de-commits from us and then names uga, bama, uf lsu, and nd his leaders. After rivals and or the other services give him the typical bama bump in rating he recommits to the Vols and tells the whole word he did it just to prove a point. :)

Of course he would then be dropped in the next ratings.

Made Alabama's Super All State First Team.

Out of the 3 LB spots available. Bryant, SDH, and Tre Williams made it. Pretty good company. Congrats to him.

Has there been any recent comments out of his mouth about the Vols or his commitment? Seems like he committed and then there was the normal couple days later cover story but nothing since.

It's been mentioned that he hasn't visited UT since his commitment because he was focusing on his grades through the Summer.

Well that's awesome on his part, obviously striving to reach his goals. I hope like hell he is solid, and ends up in orange or smokey! Class of MooMoo, Bates, Bryant, Weatherd, and Dews really is a start to being mean at LB like the old days. Kid is a heck of a player.
Now with the grades part of it, he did what he had to, and technically just needs the bare minimum to qualify, just not bomb his senior year.

AL.com's Ben Thomas and Josh Bean addressed both questions in this week's Coastal Alabama Recruiting Update.
Thomas visited Jackson this week, where quarterback Matthew Jordan and linebacker Gavin Bryant told him they're strongly committed to Georgia Tech and Tennessee, respectively. The duo also discussed the recruitment of St. Paul's Josh Casher, who de-committed from Auburn this summer.
