'14 AL LB Gavin Bryant (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Made Alabama's Super All State First Team.

Out of the 3 LB spots available. Bryant, SDH, and Tre Williams made it. Pretty good company. Congrats to him.

I really hope he gets in. Love to get a Jon Bostic type of player in the middle for US. Kid crashes into ball carriers not that grabbing BS. I love violent LBs who make RBs not want to hit the hole all game. Plus we've got to stop Bama, Florida, and Georgia. All three are adding top RBs who will need to be hit(not reached and grabbed at) in the mouth all game.

"Bryant recorded 10 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries as Jackson won its season opener 37-6 over Clarke Country. Selma is next on the schedule for Jackson."

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker keeps in contact with Tennessee's linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen on a routine basis and they two often talk of his role when he gets on Tennessee's campus.

"We talk every two or three days," Bryant said. "Basically, we talk about what I'm going to do when I get up there and the friendship we have off and on the field. He talked about stuff we'd do on and off the field like going fishing."

"That's exactly what I want to do. I want to play early and play good to make a difference," Bryant offered. "I know Tennessee is losing like five linebackers. I want to do what they're doing, play hard at Tennessee and make it to the next level."

But, just because he's ready to be a Vol doesn't mean others schools have stopped recruiting him as Auburn and Miami are the two schools that continue to recruit Bryant the hardest. He said he's thought about taking visits to the two schools but is happy with his Tennessee pledge and likely won't. A big reason Bryan won't likely take the visits is because of the relationship he's formed with Thigpen.

"Coach Thig is real cool. Every other school I went to they were cool, but no one was like coach Thig," Bryant said.

I know we have a lot of great recruits this cycle, but this is my favorite.

Dude plays like a man among boys in a area with good ball.

As we rise to the top, opposing coaches will see the reason and throw big money and/ or a promotion at Thig. Hope we avoid another Garner situation. Our talent dwindled after his departure. Hopefully we get back on top where TN starts recruiting itself a little more, but we'll always need stud recruiters considering our population disadvantage.

Thig is worth whatever it takes to keep him.

I know alot of us have worried that if bama comes calling he may flip, but recently I been thinking he may be the complete opposite, after them not taking him earlier in the process and getting snubbed. He may truly like UT and will stay true to commitment cause of thig, but I believe there may be a revenge factor in his mind too. Just my opinion.

I'm still a little worried about this guy, bc I really don't want to lose him, but Thig calms my nervs like a cold beer after a long days work.

Bama isn't the worry, it's Auburn.

They run a 4 2 5 and have 2 good LB's already committed, unless one decommitts then AU won't recruit him very heavily

Yea, and even more odd is they run a 4-2-5 with 3 safeties. They use a safety as a OLB/CB/S. I think they term it a star hybrid?

“I hear from Auburn a lot, and then Miami. They want me to come visit, but I’m probably not going to go visit,”

“I still feel the same about Tennessee, and that’s probably where I’ll end up after I graduate.”

“I might not make it to a game at Tennessee, but I know I’m going to go to the game when they play Alabama in Tuscaloosa (on Oct. 26),” Bryant said. “I want to really go to a game. I’ll probably still end up going. A lot of people I’ve talked to want to go to a game, too, because they talk about how wild it is there on game day.”

“I’m getting everything squared away in the classroom and getting my ACT score,” he said. “It’s basically my ACT score (I need to improve). I’m pretty close.”

Good news. Obivously the concern is his ACT score, but he still has adequate time to take care of it.
