'14 DC CB D'Andre Payne (UT commit 4/3/13)

The secondary so far has been disappointing overall other than Sutton.

Watch the Aaron Murray long run when the two DBs ran into each other.

It's a personnel issue. The play will be improved next year with the players we have coming in. More big plays, big hits, and personal fouls, I hope! :)

The DBs need that nasty and in your face attitude. They will allow for more one on one coverage and more blitzing.

Lets put this into perspective.

Nearly same personnel as last year's worst defense in UT history and our defense has kept us in games this year.

I think it was discussed earlier in this thread or maybe the Gaulden thread, but I like Payne at nickel with Gaulden at corner. They both have the ability to play both positions, but I feel like they would better match up against recievers this way

Randolph has been fine, and played really well when healthy. The problem is he is never fully healthy.

Payne had 5.5 tackles and never allowed a completion in a 51-12 win over Ballou. He also had an 84 yard rushing touchdown and a 75 yard punt return for a touchdown. The playoffs are next.

Never allowed a completion? Lockdown.

Payne was selected as the MVP in the DC championship game today. Another future Vol showing why the 2014 class will be fantastic. Congratulations D'Andre. Can't wait to see you in orange.

Crazy how our class is so sick that we barely even talk about a great talent like Payne.

Yes it is but it's just a testament to how well this staff is recruiting. It takes nothing away from Payne, I think he's going to be a key piece for our defense in the future. A future that looks to be very bright.

Yeah he is. I could have sworn he was faster than he is. Maybe a year in the system will help him.

Yeah he did play a lot faster last year. If you watch the games this season you can tell he is thinking too much. He is only a sophomore and has had two different position coaches. He will be fine next year sophomore slump usually something players experience. We will see huge improvement next year.

A knee injury can really slow a player down too. With good conditioning and work offseason he'll be playing faster next year

I wanted to update my post about Payne. The game was the DC semi-final not the final. At WR, he caught a 60 yard TD pass. He had a pass interception and a 25+ yard punt return which both lead to TDs. His interception was described by the paper as dazzling. They said that he was clearly the best player on the field and his Vol commitment was mentioned several times. Could not find any video of the game. Sorry.

He's not completely back yet. Yeah he's hitting well but I see other things like his change of direction isn't all the way there yet. You can judge that by some of the angles he's taking.

Just another BEAST in the 2014 class!

In the days leading to Thursday’s Turkey Bowl against Wilson High, H.D. Woodson defensive back D’Andre Payne did everything he could think of to prepare for the game. He prayed repeatedly and sharpened his focus on game-planning during a week filled with distractions.

On Thursday morning, after a full night of sleep, he woke up and ate eggs, turkey bacon and grits, believing it would give him the fuel to fly.

But what happened a few hours later was nothing Payne could prepare for. He wasn’t just the best player on the field Thursday — he transcended the competition on the grandest stage, adding a memorable performance to one of the city’s oldest high school football traditions.

2013 Turkey Bowl: Andre Payne leads H.D. Woodson past Wilson for title - The Washington Post

On offense this year, Payne has scored 10 TDs while averaging 24 yards per catch and 14.8 yards per carry.

Lol at that writer "He wasn’t just the best player on the field Thursday — he transcended the competition on the grandest stage" talking about a HS game and trying to sound all intellectual but essentially saying the same thing twice.
