Like what I saw from Bates. Attacks and form tackles. Is he an EE? If so he may start this season. Needs a major bump imo.

Yeah I wanted to see more of bates but I missed the first half. They were hard core falling all overthemselves about bama I was about to lose it when that kid picked arazonia though. MADE MY NIGHT.

Farrell said Bates has been dominant at LB, and has the speed to play safety also. That's a sick combo to have at LB.

I love Bill Bates, but I feel like his son has the potential to be much better than pops was.

If it happens, Papa Bates would very likely be prouder of Dillon turning better than him in college and at the next level than anything he ever did himself and would probably be the first to tell you that. In such a situation both Moms and Pops want the best.

"First off, Bates really came alive in the second half and finished with four tackles and a tackle for a loss with a couple of nice hits on two different five-star running backs.

I thought he looked good in run support in the second half and you could tell he got in a rhythm.

As to the Alabama stuff, he laughed and said, 'No, where did that even come from?' when I asked him about him visiting or being interested. He's all Vol."

"We were just on a rotation, that's how it was at the very beginning. Whenever I got in there I wanted to make my presence known and wanted to make plays and do my job," Bates said.

"All of the pre-game jitters got to me a little," Bates said. "You see the read and you know you should attack the read and be there but there's a little hesitation. But, once you get the pre-game jitters out it's like a normal game and a normal thing and all the reads happen like common sense. It did kind of click."

"It felt good," Bates said. "I had a pretty good one on Fournette in the first half. You always like those. You're thinking, 'I have to hit these guys hard,' because they are five-star running backs, but you use your form, your technique and you get them. Those definitely felt good."

"This was amazing. It's definitely something I'll remember for the rest of my life and something I will tell my kids about," Bates said. "This was probably the most fun week of football I've ever had. I'm just thankful for this and just thankful for the sponsors and everybody that included me in this week."

He doesn't look so small in that pic now does he?

His lower body is definitely there. Look at those legs, even calves, compared to others. His upper body (chest mostly) is where the lighter weight is but that should be easy since all he needs to do is concentrate on a particular set of muscles to grow/add weight. Still he's got to be strong as an ox even without the extra weight there cuz he is a beast.

Question about the ESPN Bates/Herm comment... can someone enlighten me? I don't watch pro ball so I don't know what it refers to. I tried to google but came up empty handed about what it refers to/means.

5. LB DILLON BATES, PONTE VEDRA (FLA.)
Continuing with his great play from the week of practice, Bates was very solid. The Tennessee commit had four tackle and one for a loss in a key situation when team Highlight was driving. Bates' football IQ really served him well as he always seemed to be in position to make a play on the ball. Bates may be a little undersized but it clearly didn't make a difference as he was able to fight through blocks and made a nice tackle for a loss.

FWIW, Bates finished higher on the list than guys like DaShawn Hand, Raekwon McMillan, Jabrill Peppers, and Ermon Lane.

And yet with all of this and the great week he had against some of the best in the country, the recruiting sites will probably use his size as the excuse as to why he did not go up in the final rankings.

Looks like my prediction of him and kelly being five stars is verry likely

They'll probably move up a few spots but I doubt they get a 5th star. Bates needed a stat line like 10 tackles, 1 sack and 1 INT for a 5th star, IMO. He wasn't on the field enough for that to happen.

TKjr still has a chance but he'll need a monster game. JMO

I think he will just miss out, the top ranked players must get alot of hype. ESPN flat out refused to talk about the #2. ranked class on their site all day. It's not to crazy to compare our class to ole miss from last year, but the difference to me is ole miss had 3 top prospects that made their class. While our class is more talented all around.

It's hard to find a LB with the speed Dillon has, that's why I think he could be a 5*, but I know he wasn't hyped up at all by espn so I think he stays a 4*
