He's been very good in practice, but has taken some freshman lumps, as would be expected. He is apparently a very hard worker, leads by example, and is soaking up knowledge from the older guys.

Can't ask for anything more.

JJ moved to DE?

"I think it's an experiment to see if Johnson can help them faster at end than anywhere else. They haven't had a great pass rush off the edge so it's a look to see.

I don' think it means Bynum has emerged as the answer behind A.J. in the middle. I don't think it means Jakob is too big for the middle either.

Remember this about Jakob. He's a very raw and relatively inexperienced player."

Hubbs talking about our pass rush in recent years or the pass rush this spring? If its the Pass Rush from spring then that's discouraging. I thought Vereen and maggitt were big time speed rushers.

Recent years IMO, they are trying to have more than two pass rushers. Those two and Weatherd should do well on 3rd downs. Johnson has a lot of potential at his size though.

A lot of talent coming in as well. Jakob is the type of player that will give his all wherever the coaches put him. He and Curt would be a nasty duo on the line.

I think Johnson has a chance to grow into the ideal Leo our coaches want. If he continues to bulk up and doesn't lose any speed or agility, he could potentially have the size/strength/speed combination to both play with his hand in the dirt and drop back into coverage.

I like Maggit as a Leo, but I think he's more of a pass rusher than an edge setter with his hand in the dirt. Jakob's natural size and athleticism mean he could potentially be a Leo who can do both of those things as well as drop back into coverage.

Of course, he may end up transitioning to DE or MLB full time and that would be fine too. The coaches will play around with him over the next year or two and see how he fits. But IMO, the ideal outcome would be that he blossoms into an versatile Leo who can do a lot of things.

We have a lot of LBs on board for the 2014 class and more coming in 2015. Plus, over half of our snaps are now in the nickel. A versatile Leo who can set the edge, pass rush, and drop back into coverage could potentially make a bigger impact on our defense than another MLB: it would allow for a lot of exotic blitzes and could result in some easy turnovers for our D.

Jakob is currently 6'4" 250 according to reports. What's the top end of the size spectrum for an effective MLB, assuming speed stays intact?

Not sure about the MLB part, but I believe reports have been that he has moved to DE. Wasn't sure if you caught that, sir.
