I can't stand posters like this

He is overrated. He is not good at the point of attack. He does the wrap and sling. He often gives up yards because of it. It'll turn a 2-3 yard carry into a five yard carry. He should be a lot better this year.

At least you made an attemp to explain your stance.

I like AJ. He does it right off the field and works his butt off. He's got good field awareness, but he needs to work on his initial hit.

I agree he had trouble his first two years with this, however, I saw improvement last year as the season went on with his drive through the tackle.

What do you mean by this? I thought you'd be all over him being arrested.. Not the choir boy image you seem to long for in our players.

You mean in the weight room?

It's one thing about having a beer or a puff. It's another thing to abandon your team. That's like treason to me.

I was just seeing the burger's guide to life. Seems awfully hypocritical that one person did not go to jail and you bash him even though he's 16 and the other is a grown ass man at 22 a few months from 23 and got arrested yet it's no biggie. Crime is crime, except when it's not in burger's mind then it can slide :p

Didn't he hit a guy because that guy hit some girl? I say that's chivalry.

It's been said before, but a lot of people just don't get it. Way too many of AJ's tackles thus far in his career have been open field tackles....even those made between the tackles. Very few linebackers have the ability to square up a quality running back in all the running room our defenses have allowed. So, just like for defensive backs, his focus is just to get him to the ground. I truly hope for all our sakes that we are able to win some one on one battles across the board on defense, which will shrink those holes and help our LB corps make the kind of hits they are capable of.

lets see how AJ plays with more speed and talent around him to help fill gaps and not require him to cover so much space. If team's go 4-5 wide, I'd love to see him hop around on the line like Al Wilson, pick a spot and rush the passer. He doesn't need to be caught in crossing patterns in man coverage against a TE, much less a slot.

AJ is and has always been a very solid, dependable run-stop linebacker for the VOLS. His pass coverage hurt us a few times last year. Hopefully he's in better form this Fall. GBO

I doubt it. He would have been charged with assault for that.. IIRC it was public indecency or noise violation/808. That's just being a college student, and doesn't bother me, but if you can't handle a kid being young and stupid but not getting arrested idk how you could handle a grown man being stupid and getting arrested.

Noise violations aren't too bad. Quitting on your team is dishonorable.

First team all-sec should be able to give no ground in an open field tackle.

AJ is no different than a lot of our better players these last few years. They've been dragged down by overall poor play around them. Simms is on an NFL roster for crying loud. AJ will ball out this year with a better supporting cast. Especially if anyone actually starts generating pressure.

Could agree with that. AJ is very good, not elite at all.

AJ has started in the SEC since he was a freshman, iirc. If that ain't "elite" I don't know what is. He has limitations and weaknesses like all players. Every team in this league would be ecstatic to have him on their squad though.

Starting on the UT teams from '11-'13 is like being the smartest kid in a special ed class. The '12 team he started on was a special ed class.

Elite is being in the top 10% in the country. He's not in the top 10% in his conference.

Like I said he's being viewed through a prism full of shizz. The play of the whole is skewing your judgement on it's parts. The guy has tremendous talents. If he played for Bama we'd fear him on game day. Just my 2 cents.

If he player for bama, he wouldn't be starting. I view him for the player he is. Not the fantasy that people can develop. Last year, he was slow and was terrible at the point of impact. He did have good field awareness, and he never gave up. He's a decent tackler at best.

I think being on a bad D makes him look better. It's like the decent looking chick next to her ugly friends. The ugly girls make the decent looking girl look a lot better.
